Hi Everyone,

I might have the worse luck, but I do not know what is going on. I have been trying to make a copy of Dragonball: Saga of Goku Vol2 for the past 2 days.

I have been using DVD Decrypter for the ripping portion.

First I tried using DVD Shrink. During the encoding phase it would go all the way up to 100% then it would pop up an error message saying, Out of Memory. I am running 512Mb of physical memory plus 760Mb of virtual memory. I tried it once again and it came out with the same results. I have tried using solutions found on the different posts, but I have not had any luck.

I then tried encoding it with Clone DVD and when I keep Preserve Menus checked it would freeze and I would get a program Not Responding message.

I have been looking into this through different forums, but I could not find a fix to the problem. I could use all the help that I can get.

Thanks in advance

There is a simple fix, and one that has been repeated over and over again. You don't need to use Decrypter with DVD Shrink since its own version of Decrypter often causes such problems when the files are trying to be compressed. Shrink will now re-author, backup (rip), compress and burn the files to disc in one go.

I tried the suggestion of using DVD Shrink, but when I try to access the DVD drive, I get the error Failed to Read File "F:\"

Could it just be something wrong with this disk. Is there an alternative way other than using DVD Shrink??

Draven, Are you allowing the DVD to start to play first? Some times that can make a difference on whether the disc will be read.

You must select the correct drive in the 'preferences' settings. Don't forget also that Shrink will only identify DVD 9 discs i.e. not discs already ripped or home movies or DVD files ripped with Decrypter.

I know this may sound picky but I would suggest that you use the word "backup" instead of "copy". You will get in less trouble if you use that word.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the input. I have tried playing it for several minutes and then try to access it with DVD Shrink. I had no luck there I also checked the settings on the program and everything seemed to be in order. I would click on Open Disc on the Toolbar a and then select F:\[DVDVolume] from the dropdown list. That is when I would get the Fail to read File error. The disc is an original that I bought just this past week, and it is a DVD-9 disc.

From your last post, I am not clear about whether you were able to play the DVD? Have you tried one of the other DVD BACKUP ripper programs? I noticed you have tried CLONEDVD which will not work if the program is copy protected anyway. It may just be the DVD itself. If this is the case take it back and get another one. Sorry, I noticed you did try a couple of ripper programs.

Yes I am able to play the DVD, and I can even rip it using Decrypter with no problem. It all comes to when I use DVD Shrink on it. There is no copy protection on it at all, or none that was detected. Is there any other program that I can use other than DVD Shrink??

You may never be able to read it with DVDSHRINK, I have not had it happen myself but I have read about cases where DVDSHRINK will not be able to finish processing a certain DVD for whatever reason. That is why I have DVD X COPY PLATINUM as well as DECRYPTER.

It is very rare for Shrink to not recognise a disc. Does this problem occur with all discs? If the disc is not copyrighted and is less than 4.38Gb you will be able to copy it directly with your burner without ripping or compressing. I would suggest you completely uninstall DVD Shrink and then re-install it, making sure you update to the latest version. Of course what you might have is a pirate copy of that disc which has somehow slipped through the net.

I will try your suggestion Discmania.
It seems to be a legit DVD and I dont see the store that I bought it from as being a disreputable one. It is an anime DVD though and it was distributed from Asia, so who is to tell. I will have to see if I can find another copy to compare it with. Most of the time no 2 pirated copies are the same.
I have found it strange that I could not backup this DVD. I have used DVD Shrink on other backups with no problem what so ever. This DVD has even given me problems on DVD X Copy Platinum. Decrypter rips it fine, but it all comes down to when it is time to compress it.
Anyways thanks for the suggestions. I will be heading home in a bit to try them out.

After doing everything suggested and going to the store and trading my DVD, I found out that for some reason DVD Shink was not reading the title of the DVD. It kept reading it as [DVDVolume] when it should have been reading it as [Dragonball_Disk2]. Sorry for raising such a stink about this problem, but I appreciate all the help that was given.

i had this problem too yesterday. I was backing up a Belle & Sebastian DVD. DVD Shrink could not open it. I'm using 3.1.7. It said something about "unable to read sector because it is encrypted". I had to use DVD Decryptor to decrypt the contents and even then it reported to keys of some files as N/A, which i thought was strange. I haven't tried to burn it yet do i am not hopeful.
