A couple of years ago I scanned hundreds of images from a dozen photo albums. For reasons I won't bore you with I batch-changed their resolution from 500dpi (the resolution at which I had scanned them) to 72dpi via Photoshop Elements 5.

Recently I have scanned images at 500dpi, but when I open them in Elements 5 and check their resolution via Resize I find that they are shown as having a resolution of 72dpi (even though I haven't made any changes). Are they really 72dpi or are they still 500dpi?

The purpose of my scanning is to a) create and burn archives of my images to DVD and b) to create slideshow DVDs in DVD PixPlay.

The bottom line is whether I need to batch resize my images to 500dpi (for future printing purposes) or can I leave them as they are?

I think this dpi change is just a default resolution for printing.
As long as you didn't actually resample the images.

Take a look at the actual dimensions (in pixels) and you can be sure.

Here's an example. Assume you have an photo that is 2 inches by 3.
If you scan it at 300 dpi, the res of the finished scan should be
approx. 600x900 pixels, and if you print it as-is you should
see it print at it's original size (2x3 inches).

If however you change the image size res (not by resampling) to
72 dpi, the print size will be 8.3*12.5 inches.
(600/72*900/72) and the actual res of the image will still be
600*900.

PS this forum is for questions related to NERO. Your question
is seriously off-topic.

Thanks davexnex,

I'm afraid I confused Nero and Photoshop and posted to the wrong forum. My apologies.
