Need help with ugrading Pioneer 107 firmware

Hi,
Just got my Pioneer 107 drive and have some questions about upgrading the firmware.
1. How do you tell what the current firmware is?
2. From reading the forum its better to flash to
Flashman's firmware v1.10. What's the difference
between the 2 files:
DVR-107Dv1.10_RPC-1+12xRip+8xDVD-R_WINDOWS_XP.zip
DVR-107Dv1.10-RPC-1+12xRip+8xDVD-R.zip
in http://flashman.rpc1.org/Firmware/PIONEER/DVR-107D/Patched/
Is one for Windows XP and the other for other
OS's (the XP version has instructions for other
OS's as well - bit confused about this)
3. Any idea what CHKRW.EXE does?

If you are runnung Windows XP use the XP firmware and follow the instrutions just for XP. Step by Step. Don't worry about your firmware just flash it with Flashman's files.

OK,I found out how to get the firmware version (you use CHKRW.EXE). After flashing, how do you know you've got flashmans's firmware hack? The details are exactly the same after flashing the drive:
Current Revision : 1.10
Release Date : 04/02/12

Get it from flashmans site (flashman.rpc1 or something - do a search). Also, it is normally on my website, but it seems the link is down from it and im ot scheduled to update the whole site until either this weekend or when i get back from Jamaica in two weeks.

Sorry, I meant to say that I've flashed the drive using his firmware but how do you know that his firmware has actually overwitten the v1.10 that came with the drive?

Or test by extracting a DVD movie with DVD Decrypter. If the ripping speed goes higher than 4x you're good to go!

I have read all that you have to say but why must the drive be changed to G: to flash it with this particular firmware? Can it be changed back to the original drive and still work? I should think it would only it is suggested that once the firmware is changed, it cannot be changed back. Thank you

G: is just the default location. You need to edit that to your drive's location. For example my Pioneer is E: drive so I changed the letter to E:.
How to change the drive letter:
Once you have extracted the firmware files, right click on the cloud and lightning icon, select propertys and then select the program tab. You should see the Cmd line. Just highlight the letter G and type the letter (upper case) that corresponds to your Pioneer's location.
If you didn't change this then your firmware is not flashed.
I flashed mine back to the original firmware and then flashed it back again, so you can "remove" the flash. I was having some problems with my computer that I thought were related to the hacked firmware.

I have just applied the firmware to my 107D from flashman R7100007.105 and DVDinf says it is installed but certainly have not found any increase in ripping. Best I can get is around 6X, have I done something wrong? thank you

It's a theoretical thing when it comes to ripping. It's UP TO 12x, if you're past 2x then it's probably working have you burned a 4x media disc at 8x? If so then it worked.
