I am getting a blue screen error 0x00000101 every time I play a game such as Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead. Left 4 Dead was only a trial so I am only left with TF2. I have went to the game developers website and found a support article that exactly describes my problem. According to the article, I am using too much paged pool memory and I may have an IRQ conflict due to the on board sound. I have also done an OS re-installation as suggested by Dell, but sadly it did nothing. Dell is trying to get me to pay $120 for their "Dell on Call" support which I think I should still get as I am still in warranty. Steam is telling me to contact Microsoft but Microsoft Tech Support does not accept my Windows Product ID for some reason. I bought my computer directly from Dell, so it is a real product code. I have also enabled and disabled Multi core rendering in TF2 but it did nothing. All my drivers are correct and up to date.

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5034-EIPV-6426
The PCI Letency Timing section does not concern me because I have a PCI-E card.

For the paged pool memory, I have disable every non Microsoft start up program and it still does not bring the Paged Pool Memory down and I cannot check for a Paged Pool Memory Lock because Vista does not have a BOOT.INI.

For the IRQ conflict, I am unable to change the hardware acceleration level to determine it but it does stop freezing with the -nosound option. So I may have an IRQ conflict according to the article. But I cannot change the IRQ as the check box is grayed out.

Someone please help me. My computer has been playing TF2 fine for about a year until a couple months ago. Thanks.

Yeah, I have SP2 installed. Should I uninstall it?

Okay thanks. Do you know anything else that might fix this in case uninstalling SP2 does not work?

did you try updating your videocard driver from the videocard manufacturer?

Yeah I did that also. From Dell and from ATI. I am kind of busy right now. I will get back to this a couple days.

The Windows Energy screen saver has froze several times today, and it looks like it uses a lot of graphics. I think it might be because of the graphics card since a screen saver does not use sound. But TF2 also does not freeze with the -nosound option. Since school is starting I really have no time to play TF2 yet.

EDIT: Okay, so it still froze after uninstalling SP2. I have updated my graphics card driver from ATI's website just in case and still nothing. Do you have anymore suggestions?

Try assigning a different irq to the sound card. One that is free obviously.

The only thing in the IRQ section relating to sound is called High Definition Audio Controller. The rest either are Intel or Microsoft. The checkbox to untick the Use Automatic Settings is grayed out, so I cannot change the IRQ.

I contacted Dell about the screen saver issue and they are sending me a replacement Radeon 4850. I hope this works.

Please suggest anything else you can because my problem is not fixed yet. Thanks

In all honesty I sincerely doubt that it's the actual hardware. What is your dell model? See if rolling back the video/audio driver does anything. Also see if there is anyway to be able to change the irqs, though since it's dell, probably not.

I have a Dell Studio XPS 435MT. In the thread I PM'ed you (not sure if I am allowed to post it), they are getting the same blue screen I am getting and the same error message when diagnostics are run. The only problem is that most people in the thread have a wireless card and I don't. TF2 also sets Multi-core rendering off by default so I don't need to go into the BIOS to change it as it only freezes the game and my screen savers (which I turned off). Someone mentioned reinstalling the OS with drivers all from Dell except for the graphics which you get from ATI. I do not want to reinstall the whole OS again, so I decided to just uninstall the driver by using the setup file and then going into device manager and uninstalling it because I still saw it there. After I completely uninstalled it I installed the ATI driver. It has not freeze yet but I have not been able to test it multiple times yet, only once. I guess I will still try replacing the graphics card, and if that does not work I will ask for a whole system replacement as some people got one in the thread above. It did not help them but it should help me because I was playing TF2 fine since December.

EDIT: When I chatted with Dell about changing the IRQ they wanted me to pay $130 so software support can help me with just that one problem. Apparently my warranty only covers hardware not software. I think next time I will build my own computer as support from manufacturers are useless. Gateway also refused to help me with one of my computers because "it wasn't their fault." I really appreciate both of your support as you have already helped more than Dell did.

EDIT: Looks like the graphics card replacement worked. I have never got the blue screen error and it has never froze. Thanks for your help.
