First off i am a newbie and a Nanna and not up on all this stuff:-)

It seems to me i can use any of the above cards for my Grandaughters and my DS Lites, what is putting me of purchasing one is the software stuff you have to download, it looks terribly confusing to me, so could some good soul give me their opinion of which is the easiest to set up, and do they all have to have downloads or can i use them without all this download stuff........i am aiming to get an 8gb card...thanks so much for reading and any help/advise given:-)

I am afraid all carts need setting up.

Buy M3 Real, Acekard, EZ Flash

Go to the site in my signature - it hosts all the firmwares, select your cart and download the firmware. Unzip it and put it on the cart, make a new folder for the games and put them in!

If you want something reliable and easy to set up avoid anything with R4 in the name, look at all the threads for people trying to get them to work.

cheap carts at www.dealextreme.com, however it will take up to 3 weeks to arrive!

Thanks so much for your reply i have taken on board what you have said but still looking at the R4 SDHC with a 8gm micro card for £27.92 at www.r4ds-gaming.co.uk and they will put on the kernal installation for 99 pence, that price includes everything p&p and the installation, so i think i wil go for that, do you know if the website is ok?

Just passing thru. If you really want to buy an R4 i would try here ~ http://www.r4i.co.uk/ as you seem to get what you pay for. Mine works fine from there, fairly quick delivery too.

Haven't heard of www.r4ds-gaming.co.uk so can't comment on their products though.

Buy a CycloDS, M3Real, or EZFlash V+.

Buy anything with R4 in the name and you're just ASKING for trouble.

Yeah as per kittymat and dailun, R4's can be much more trouble than they're worth, the other alternatives are apparently much better. I'm just saying that if you do get one from a known good source you should be fine, but if you buy an R4 from somewhere you can't vouch for, you're probably in for a lot of hassle and possibly a non-working card.

all cards need setting up. The classic r4 only support 2G microSD. and r4i support dsi. Do you buy the card for DS or DSI. If for the DS, buy r4-sdhc for your 8gb card or m3ds real as too many clones of R4. many resellers R4DS-III EarlyDepot both of them have the link to download latest updated Kernel Firmware.

BTW DX sells cheap, but delivery is too slow. Just check where to buy

Nothing is impossible.
