What speed media are you using? And do you have the most current firmware for the DVR-103 (1.80 or later is best)?

Basically, the 103 and 104 have problems with 4x media without upgrading the firmware. This may be the issue. Also, like Xian pointed out, PCMCIA and USB 1.1 cannot usually provide the necessary bandwidth for burning DVD's. Try plugging the drive internally in a desktop and test it. You would be better off getting a Toshiba SD-R6112 or other internal DVD±RW drive and putting the drive inside your laptop...

I have the latest firmware and it's plugged into USB 2.0. When I tried it on my sister's desktop it did the same thing.

That's strange. Usually the drive will work or not. But every other disc? Are you burning from a master? Was the device tested in the desktop on its own channel? My only other thought is maybe the laser is failing and the drive is overheating. I have had CDRW's that would do partial burns but if the drive heated up it would fail. I don't have the test procedure for the laser assy on the Pioneer but you should be able to check it. I will see what I can find.

Thank You.
But let me just clarify by what I mean by every other disc. One the burning gets passed writing the lead-in for the dvd, I'm in the clear. It seems like its about the first 2% of the writing when the errors seem to happen. It'll start and then within 30-60 seconds thats when the error occurs. It doesn't burn like half of it then stops. So I don't think it's overheating cause it hasnt had much time to heat up.

Try using a normal port instead of the USB. That's usually the problem. (A similar error occurred with a friend of mine.)
