I work on Windows XP with 160GB disk space divided among drives C:\ to F:\. These are in addition to my disk drive (G:\) which I use mostly to write DVDs.

Recently C:\ appears to have less space available than it should. When I move the cursor about the icon I get:
Free Space: 14.8 GB
Total size: 29.2 GB

With the data in this drive, the free space is usually around 20 GB. I have about 2 GB of downloads but where has the extra 3 GB gone?

Folder by folder, the reading is:

*Config.Msi 0

*Documents and settings 2.30 GB
(includes 2.07 GB of downloads in a sub-subfolder)

* DVD programs 2.97 MB
(contains programs I use)

* GSP 2.90 MB
(a crossword game)

*Logo 72.5KB

*My Works 0

*Program Files 1.93 GB

*Temp 0

*Unzipped 21.1 KB

*videooutput 0

*Windows 1.60 GB
(Is the problem here?)

*Winlogo 1.21MB

Why doesn't it add up to 29.2 less 14.8 = 14.4 GB?

Have I accumulated temporary files?
I have run %Temp% and deleted all files.

I have searched for *.tmp files in the drive and found only a few thousand kB, which I left alone.

The Local Settings in My Documents/My Name has only 17.2 MB.

How can I identify what has used up my space? Please help.

Run CCleaner.
Click the 'Analyze' button and see what it picks up - then if you wish you can run the cleaner.
- don't bother with the registry cleaning and those other aspects.
