Hi TMcCallie
Ok lets remove Nero and the whole HP/Record Now burning suite.
Is there a day you can restore to.
Try this first and we will keep working until it is resolved

HP notified me of update to the burner which was 3.20 version. I downloaded it.
I then removed a DVD Copy program called DVDCloner2.0 which I had installed on my computer.

I then tried to back up RADIO. I was useing DVDFAB to copy files to hard drive and it copied fine. I then used DVDCloner2.0 to burn it to blank DVD.

I tried to play it on my burner useing Power DVD. It would not play, the green light on the burner just stayed on.

I then removed it and tried playing it on my Sony DVD player. It played fine except there were place in the movie that would stop and then start again.

I played the orignal in the DVD player and it played fine.
I found the file on the computer that was hanging and it played fine on my computer.

I think now that it is my HP 300n burner.

I still had Nero and Record Now and the HP burn software installed while this was going on.

I have a new burner NEC 2500A which I have not installed yet.

Do you think I should remove the HP burner and install the NEC?

Correction the program I used to burn was CloneDVD2 not DVDCloner2 as I stated earlier.

Hi TMcCallie
You are probably right in changing the burner to the NEC 2500A. I have fears that just changing the burner may not fix your problem. Before changing your burner remove all the HP burner software - Record Now, My DVD, HP Simple Backup etc.
It also would be an idea to remove Nero completely using Nero's clean tools http://www.nero.com/en/631938356101755.html.
After a successful install of the new burner then reinstall Nero.
I hope this helps

I am going to call HP tech since the drive was bought in Aug 83. They might swap out the drive.
I know they are going to say that I have othr burn software installed and that is the problem. They are good at hedging.

I will keep you posted.

I definitely am going to call HP about the drive.

I got it to back up a movie. The movie will play on my DVD Playeer but it will not play on the HP DVD Burner. The burner just continues to run. I have tried to play it with Power DVD and other players and it will not play.

Other problem is that when I play the burned disc in my DVD Player it plays fine then it gets to places where it acts like it is dragging as the movie stops andwaits then plays a little and then stops and plays a little and then completely stops. I know it is not the original copy of the Movie because it plays fine in both my computer and DVD Player.

There is something either wrong with the burner or womething.

Well just as I thought. Drive is bad. Has a year warranty, Purchased 8/14/03 BUT I do not have a copy of the invoice so they will not replace it. That is a bunch of crap since I purchased it on 8 12 03 and installed on 8/14/03 and the born on date in the computer shows 8/14/03. I ALSO sent the registration card to HP when it was installed.

I think this is a bunch of crap. I have bought over 8,000.00 of merchanidse from HP Shoppping.Com but this is the last straw. If they don't replace my drive after I call the Corporate office in the morning, I will never buy another HP product.

Will keep you posted....

Hello all I need some help with my 300n burner i like everyone else is having problems with this stupid thing and i personaly think they should do a re call but thats just me. i am using Record now and ill go to make a copy of a dvd then after it has copied the dvd it will ask to put in a blank dvd recordable cd. I put in a Blank DVD+R and then it comes up with an error and says enter in a blank dvdr. Do u think this is one of the defective ones that i should call HP about or do u think i can do something else to get this to work. I am new to buring DVD's can we use DVD-R? i am not sure what the diff is on them. Thank you for all your help

I had the same problem with my original 300i. It just acted like there was not a blank DVD in the burner. After several calls they determined that the laser was weak in the drive. They replaced it with another one and it works fine.

Try burning a data disc to a DVD. You can create a short word file. Then copy it and paste it to the burner. See if it writes it. If it gives you the same message, then your laser is weak and HP will replace it under your warranty if you have not had the drive for over a year.

I have the direct number for the burner dept. if you need it.
