I have a website where I want to stream some mp3 files for the listener. I cannot store them on the website host server due to space problems. I have videos stored on a Yahoo account but this does not seem to upload mp3 files (not listed for upload). Someone else has suggested creating a single frame video which lasts the length of the audio stream but some of the files are lengthy (voice mp3 files).

1. One possibility is to combine the audio into say a video slideshow. Does anyone know how this could be done?

2. Does anyone know of a similar online free store for mp3 audio (my prefered option)?

The reason no one wants to host mp3s is the big bad RIAA. You you are streaming their stuff they will sue not you, you have no money but the host. It is too expensive to tightly police the mp3s so they don't allow them.

Ah, I see. These are my own copyright. I guess I will have to store them on my website.

Is there a way of reducing mp3 file sizes, perhaps using a different format?

The most compression for the least space is a VBR mp3. How small do they need to be? For 3.5 megs per 3 minute tune VBR will give you Hi-Fi or 50-70 megs for an ablum depending on compression. If you need to get down to 2.5 megs or less per 3 minute file or 40 megs per album at is about 128. I suggest using Apple m4a or M$ WMA. Both are better than the hi-fi encoders below 160 br. The problem with those two are compatibility issues. Everything plays an mp3. You can play around HD radio is 90 br FM radio is 70 and AM is 50 to give you a feel for qualities.

The thing is, these are speech tapes. I volunteer for a charity and do their website. I host it free so I try to avoid too much storage (hence the videos stored on Yahoo). So far the files are 224Mbyte and expect this to go to 350Mbyte. No music is involved. Not really experienced here but I have copied the tapes into audacity and hope to break them up a bit. I have a program module which detects mp3 and opens a small control but I'm not sure if it can decode a compressed audio file.

A man's voice is less than 2kHz. 16 CBR is plenty. VBR will not help you with just a voice. Mp3s are the most common audio file your player should play it just fine, if not there are plenty of players that will play it.
