SW-9571 Does not recognise DVD-RW

I have a panasonic LF-D521E (OEM SW-9571-CYY) and have been burning Ritek GO4 discs with no problems, but when I place a DVD-RW or DVD-RAM disc into the drive it does not recognise the disc. I use Nero Ultra 6 for burning and have the latest firmware from Panasonic. Have also installed Aspi layers, checked connections, the writer is on IDE 2 as master on it's own. Though not a major problem it is frustrating that I can't use DVD-RW discs. I run Winxp pro. Any help solving this would be appreciated.
