Hello, I am new to the whole ripping dvd's thing. I have ripped a lot of my old dvd library with no problems. These dvd's play great on my 55" tv. I recently have tried ripping a few newer dvd's with dvd shrink and dvd decrypter, i have also tried using dvd fab hd. The dvd's rip with no problems. However when i play the dvd with vlc the image plays fine but when there is motion the image becomes choppy or the quality looks bad. What am i doing wrong?

You said that you are using DVDFab? Is it the same program listed on this site? http://dvdfab.com/free.htm

If it is the pro version that you purchased then all you have to do is run the program and it will do the rest. If it is not the pro version and you are ripping to your HDD before you transcode, then their could be a couple of other things that could be a problem.

1) Burning Speed: Only burn 1/2 as fast as the speed of the DVD for example 8x DVD should be recorded at 4x

2) Media: You need to be using quality media for burning. Verbatim is a big name that is used quite a bit. I use Taiyo Yuden.

3) DVD -R Media should be used or burn your +R media booktyped to [-ROM]

4) Use a nice software for burning. I burn all movie files using ImgBurn, even though I have Nero! It is a free program to download and use. http://imgburn.com/

5) Best not to compress more than 70% This may get difficult unless you are backing up your movies as movie only.

Note: There is free software to help you with this as well.

If all of those issues are covered then you shouldn't have any problems.
