I'm a newbie.

I just bought a french series from France. I wanted to rip it to make a copy for myself with the region code changed. This is not pirating, i bought the set.

Is this common, too much VOBs on the dvd, i got for 80 Gigs on each of the original dvds. Isn't DVD-9 suppose to hold only 8.5 Gigs ??

I'm viewing all these files from Windows explorer.

Maybe this is normal for all of you expert but i'm not.

Here is a screenshot:

First off, no one assumes you're pirating unless you give us a reason to.

Second, yes a dvd-9 disk is 8.5GB, but what you're seeing is the disks encryption showing a size of 80GB. Once you use a ripping program on the disks, you will see the size more comprable to a dvd-9 disk size.

Ok, it's really the first time i see that kind of structure to serve as a copy protection, does that mean the files are not really there ?

Usually, i simply copy the content and change the ifo file to make it region free, NTSC etc. I use IFOEdit. But now what can i do with all this ?

Yeah, once you use a program such as AnyDvd or DvdFab to rip the disks to your hdd, you should see maybe 8GB of data. From there, you should be able to change the region settings.

Thank you.

I just did it.

You were right the final result is consistent with the normal size.

But, there is a problem, i got no sound on the episodes. Only in the menus. The original dvd is fine of course.

All i changed is PAL to NTSC and clicked the button make region free.
