I have an ASROCK K7S8x, AMD 2800+,512 ram,120 gig hd,and a GeForce MX440 with AGP8x which i thought would handle most games but when i play Far Cry the water has no detail and looks like a clear blue sky and occasionally when playing games the pc starts to perform a physical dump whatever that is.I have run out of ideas of what i can do to solve this.

A Geforce MX440 is a low end card, you might want to look at upgrading it to get graphics on the highest detail.
From one review of the MX cards:
To begin with, unlike the rest of the GeForce 4 family, the GF4 MX lacks the nfiniteFX II Engine. What this means for the user is that all the fancy programmable pixel shaders, or the advanced DirectX 8 features, are not supported in hardware.

Can the graphics card be causing the physical dump as i have already reformatted my system and the problem still persists.I was looking at the XFX 5900XT as it sounds like a good card for the money, what do you think.

A video card can cause dumps. It can also be caused by bad RAM and a bad motherboard.
First easy step is to increase your virtual memory. It often doesn't help, but is so quick to try.

Will give the extra ram a try first and take it from there.

I know this was not the original topic but if possible i would welcome as much advise from everybody as possible on which you think is the best value for money cards on hte market rather than read it in a magazine or on some site where they'll say anything just to get my money.I am not looking for the best card out there (if only my budget could afford it) but just a good enough one that will handle the games that are out there at the moment unlike my MX440

The MX440 is a low end card like people where saying... I have a Geforce Ti4200 and it runs far cry like a champ, its the same as my friends FX5900ultra... The Ti's are a verry good card if your looking for something cheeper, but if u have the money go for a FX that will most likely fix your problem

The most money efficient solutions now are the GF4Ti-series, the Radeon9600 line and the GFX5700 line :)

Definately your card, you will have to upgrade if you want more frames and better graphics. You are looking to spend about $200 Plus or minus $20, for a card that will fit your needs.
Go browse www.newegg.com and read some of user reviews regarding purchases they've made.

Its possible to find an adequate card for less than $200 dollars which is why I gave the range of $180 to $220 or plus or minus $20. I probaly should have said $160 to $200 and that for about $150 he can get a standard Radeon 9600 but I would recommend that unless he's prepared to mod it he should get at least the Pro version. Having installed the FX5700 in more than one system I can only say that it will play some newer games but there are many it won't play without a loss of detail. In fact the Radeon 9600 pro which is faster than the 5700 series will struggle on some games.
