Can't get an avi movies to play

They won't play on quicktime, windows media, realplayer,blaze media pro or virtual dub. Virtual dub gives me the following message:

Couldn?t locate decompressor for format ?DIV3? (Microsoft MPEG-4 V3 [Hack: DivX Low-Motion])

VirtualDub requires a Video for Widows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable.

What can I do?

you need the divx codec found here:

http://www.divx-digest.com/software/nimo_pack.html

install the codec pack, it includes this codec.
