Main question is when Shrink is able to make a copy (ISO)then should be assume shrink has been able to break the copy protection.
Your assumption is correct. If you have your Preferences set accordingly in Shrink it does remove CSS (copy protection) and Macrovision. The ripped file(s) will also be Region Free.
Quote:
At start (in Shrink), when it analyze sometime it shows "not encrypted" and some time it shows "some alpha numb"does it mean anthing? Please
The string of alpha numerics appears during Decryption Status if the DVD is copy protected. They represent a "key" or "code" used to read and crack the protection. If a disc is not copy protected it says 'not encrypted' in place of the string of 5 two digit separated by a colon alpha numerics. For our purposes it means Shrink is working correctly.

Q: Have you tried using DVD Decrypter to burn your ISO file instead of using Nero? If you have DVD Decrypter installed and unchecked "Enable burning with Nero" in the Shrink preferencesc DVD Decrypter will burn your ISO file to a DVD.

I'd be inclined to check also if you need to replace your data cables - too often we look at our firmware, hardware etc and forget that there could be a chance that our data cables are damaged in some way. I've just replaced the one on my Primary IDE Channel which host my OS HD and my burner drive.

As you may have read I've done a few other mods too so I cannot be totally sure that changing the data cables helped - but it sure couldn't hurt. I blew the budget and bought the nice round ones but you can get the flat type cheaply enough and it is certainly worth a try if you continue to have problems.

Also worth a try is using Nero to burn your ISO image to disc rather than going through Shrink. You can use this method for .ISO, .CUE OR .NRG image files.

1.Open Nero Smartstart

2.Make sure you have the advanced menu option (click on the little people to enable this).

3.Click on the Configure button (2 arrows next to the people) and make sure you have all checked the box "Enable all recorder formats".

4.Go back to main SmartStart screen and click on DVD tab in top right corner (it will drop down a little).

5.Select the "Copy And Backup" Icon and click on "Burn Image to Disc" option.

6.This brings up the open window - browse until you find the required disc image. You may or may not need to choose "show all files" in the file type box - on first use it may only show .NRG files. Once you've selected your file then click on the OPEN button.

7.In this Image Recording window, select your write speed, number of copies and check that the destination is your burner drive.

8.Hit the Burn button and away you go!

Hehehehehe I think I just wrote a guide!!

Uhh...can't you open a ISO with Shrink using Open Files?
...never tried it but it sounds feasable...
Sorry - very late reply - yes u can of course open ISO's in DVD Shrink, im just always confused as to why people do, instead of ripping a disc in VOB Format using DVD Shrink....

You don't know why we rip as an ISO?

I'll let you in on a little secret:

Cause Uncle ScubaPete said so - that's why
Quote:
Open DVD Decrypter and go to ?Mode?, then ?ISO?, then ?Read?.
Where it says ?Source?, put your DVD drive -
Where it says ?Destination?,
Quote:
and
Quote:
Now, take just a second and under ?Target Device? go to ?Select target device? once there, select ?ISO Disc Image?. NEXT, IMPORTANT, tick ?Launch DVD Decrypter to burn the output image? box.

Yeah, but you can so easily do it via Shrink and Nero using Files instead of an image. I for one, will always be one for having the files there :-D

I'm actually with you on that - I use files 90% of the time - but of course with everything working so well right now, I've been wanting to try out every conceivable way of burning a disc - especially those I couldn't get to work before.

Night Night now!

If you have ripped the film to your hard drive correctlty and you have squeezed it down to the correct size then it might be your media.Try using a simple ripper to get all the files to your hard drive and try a simple software like clone dvd to do the rest.If this does not work then it is the media or the disc you are backing up has a fault. It will normally be the media as most ripping software will not rip all file if the disc is damaged

Ah, never worry about that, I've been making some ridiculous posts when completely Rat-faced drunk without too much complaint. I started when i was a member just :-)

The conversations were indeed very strange. I was trying very hard to get two of my lady friends to come down and meet me and possibly stay at my house. Was also taking to my mates mum, but i thought it was him, so that was embarrasing. I also rang two fellas from uni - dont remember what i was saying, but their numbers were in my phone and i had a few confused messages in my phone this morning.

The one that confused me most was from a girl called Linz (prob lynsey or linsey) who had sent me one saying she had a great time last night and that she hoped i got home ok. WHat i want to know is the hell Linz is and what good time we were having? I have no recollection of it at all :-D

You realise of course that Linz is probably the girl of your dreams, your soul mate.....and you can't even remember who she is lol

And I have to ask - the two lady friends in question - trying to get them to stay at the same time???? The mind boggles.

Hey do me a favour and go and do some fun environmenting in the threads where Grogey is feeling picked on please........it appears there is now someone else "following" me around, intent on making me look bad.

lol - I was actually trying to get the two lady friends to stay at the same time, but unfortunately one was in her boyfriends house (hehe) and the other was in a taxi just arriving at her home. It was 3am or something so she didnt fancy coming back down again, oh and two of her mates were with her. She told me i could come stay at hers, but i had already managed to spend £40 on a night that had 10 bottles of Bud for free. God knows what i spent it on. In retrospect i shouldve gone to her house - 3 girls in a big double bed - damn if only i hadnt been so drunk i wouldve realised that....

I made a comment in one of the threads i think u are referring to. Im not sure what was actually happening as i didnt read the thread ;-)

I have Linz's number, but i generally dont tend to ring people that ive gone out with and cant remember, for all i know they could be monsters lol

Thanx - you are a treasure! and at the same time obviously a very naughty boy!! hehehehehe

Don't ya just wish sometimes that you could drink to that really happy, cool stage and then just stay there - so you still have all your facilities but have had enough for everything to be fun? Only trouble is when I get to that stage I keep on drinking so the feeling won't wear off......and like you end up much worse for wear.

I sure do, sometimes i dont get completely drunk, and when ur not completely drunk i think its easier to get the woman. Nothing worse than spitting all over a girl when trying to ask her out and sluring the words. We should probably continue or banter (fun conversation) in the safety valve lol - i hear a moderator walking around :-D

Hi Everyone,

First of all thanks a lot for everyone's effort in trying to solve the problem. All these answers will help me in now and in future. I have understood one thing from this discussion that,
" In shrink has been able to make an ISO image, means it has break the Copy protection Mechanism. Please advise if this is incorrect.
I will try to download the DMA and other things suggested today,(as I am at work now). I will inform everyone about the progress.

Hi, you do not download DMA, it is a setting on your IDE channels. Also, you dont have to make an ISO when using Shrink, in fact i never do. the simplist method in my opinion is to rip/compress a movie in the VOB format, file mode, which also removes copy protection...

Ok - it is 2.59am here and there I was madly quilting away with about 2 inches to go to finish the quilt I am working on when a few stray burning thoughts found their way to the front regions of my brain........

With regard to ripping as an ISO file:
Pro 1: Good method for young people and those who aren't very computer literate as there is only one file to deal with when it comes to writing to disc and DVD Decrypter is so simple to use for this. I'm actually starting to show my almost 12yr old how to do this stuff - he is right into computers too - infact he put his own together (with a bit of supervision from mum of course) from spare stuff we had lying around here and conned a friend who owns a computer shop for other bits that we didn't have. I chose this method to show him first as it seemed the simplist.

Pro 2:For anyone new to burning and who doesn't have any software and money to spend on such - using ScubaPete's DVD Shrink/DVD Decrypter guide is perfect - nothing else required. No need for Nero or any other software that you have to pay for.

Con 1: I was thinking that with some of the kid's movies that I've been doing - I've actually been able to save some that are badly damaged - by cleaning (using ScubaPetes guide LOL), and doing retries as I rip the files to HD. Sometimes I still get say 3/4 of the files ripped and then strike a snag - so I then skip that file and remove the disc, clean again and repeat. Doing this with the file method means that I can skip replacing those files already on HD making things quicker.

If I was ripping using a single ISO file then each time I wanted to remove the disc to clean etc I'd have to start ripping right from the beginning each time!

Ok - back to quilt. This is the cute one I'm doing now - or should be doing now!!

make note to self not to think about computer stuff while sewing..........try thinking about needles and cotton instead.......or even better idea - watch a good dvd while sewing - that way mind has no room to think about anything else. Wonder if anyone at Afterdawn has any good movie suggestions?

Hi Everyone,as I told in last mail, my computer was taking too long to burn movies, and as advised by many senior members various methods to fix the problem. I was using Office 2000 earlier, last week I clean the computer from scratch and upgrade it to XP, since them speed has increase (burning) quiet surprizing, I was able to burn LOR (II) in less than 1hrs.
"ORIPHUS", One more thing, why you insist burning using VOB files, is it better than burning as an ISO image?
Thanks a lot for everyone's help.
