Hi There,

Ive just re-installed my PC to run Windows 2000. I'm using Windows Media Player as my default MP3 player. I am having a problem with playing MP3 files. When I try to play them the pitch fluctuates making it sound go in and out of tune. It sounds like they are being played at a varying speed.

I've searched the web for any info on this without any luck. It is a very odd problem. It only applies to MP3 files so I thought it was a codec problem but having re-installed Fraunhofer codec from the Nimo Code pack it still creates the same problem. The MP3s play fine in other players so I suspect that it is a problem with Media Player only.

I uninstalled Media Player and it tried to play it using the mplayer2 program and it plays ok. I use Media player on Windows 2000 at work without any problems so I know there should be no issues with it.

When I re-installed Windows I made sure I had all the latest drivers from my hardware manufacturers. My soundcard is a Soundblaster Live Value which appears to be functioning properly.

I'm at the end of my tether. If anyone has any light to shed I would be most grateful.

never heard of the problem you seem to be having but there are many many free downloadable mp3 players out there to suit any need

foobar2000, WinAmp

give them a try =)

Hi aspouea,

I have got the same problem. I know you posted this a while ago, but if you solved the problem could u tell me how u did it? would be great.

My mp3s slur at the start in media player but open fine in i-tunes and winamp. Also its only MP3's as WMAs are fine.

Cheers
Jim

My only solution so far is to use Real Player instead of Media Player. Your problem sounds identical to mine, and I've only noticed the problem with MP3s and also Midi files for some reason.

Another odd trait is that occasionally I have tried to play an MP3 file and Media Player has downloaded a codec for it, even though there's already one installed, it then plays fine the first time but on repeat, it reverts back to the same problem.

Have tried re-installing codecs and copying the directory from my computer at work (which plays MP3s fine) and replacing all the files. Nothing has worked so far.

Anyone?
