Hi,

I tried to backup "Alice in wonderland". DVD Decrypter, SmartRipper and DVD Shrink failed to read the disc because there is a large scratch on it. I played with the "read error" settings in Decrypter, in vain.

So I created an ISO image with DVDInfoPro (that reported no read errors by the way). Then I opened the image with DVD Shrink that gave me an error "Invalid DVD navigational structure" or something.

So I mounted the image with Nero ImageDrive. Indeed all files but VIDEO_TS.IFO, BUP and VOB appeared as empty (0 bytes). A bit wierd...

Then I loaded the image into IsoBuster. There is an ISO part and an UDF part. The ISO part contains all the expected files with meaningfull sizes, and the UDF part contains only 3 files: VIDEO_TS.IFO, BUP and VOB.

I extracted the VIDEO_TS folder (from the ISO part) to my hard disk and opened it in Shrink. Still the error "Invalid DVD navigational structure".

Finally I opened the VIDEO_TS folder with SmartRipper that reported "Authentication successful" and then gave me an error "List index out of bound".

Thus now I have that ISO image whose content seems unreadable for Shrink, SmartRipper and Nero ImageDrive.

Any suggestion ?

Cheers,

Daba

Sounds a bit scary to me daba - but heres my suggestion:

Why not try Nero Vision Express - I have had a couple of discs with "Invalid DVD navigational structure" error messages.........school stuff that was authored by another parent from stuff taken on his digital video camera.

I tried everything.....then bit the bullet and used Nero to import the parts of the movie that I wanted. The steps to follow are fairly easy and you can create chapters etc (and even if original had chapters you'll still need to put 'em in again - sorry).

My one tip is to go into the "MORE" section and untick the box that allows you to create menus - never had much success with the menus working. They do on one of my standalone players but not on many others so the safest thing to do is turn that function off.

Hope that helps a little.

My best advice for NEWBIES is:"use the search function.
