I'm looking for a free burning solution for Win7. I have Nero on an XP machine but because of license restrictions I can't use it on the laptop. Basically I am looking to backup DVD's with the new laptop running Win7. What is a good (free if possible) software config to do this? Thanks for your help!

This is free and works on W7: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/burningstudiofree.html Lighter than Nero but slower and keep an eye out for the toolbar during install. There's this version too but doubt W7: http://www.v3.co.uk/vnunet/downloads/223...ing-studio-2009 With either one, an upgrade to a paid version is only about $10.00.

I too am a fan of Lightning UKs work. Img Burn is the best. Windows 7 has built in dvd and iso burning with the os. Also with a d/l of Essentials free from MS there is some dvd authoring functionality. Of course the MS apps do not work with encrypted dvd disks.

The dvdFab trial version is free and will shrink the movie to fit a DVD5 and Free ImgBurn will burn it properly. The Fab free version does not expire. But is limited in scope, and will do what you need for DVD5 and ImgBurn will handle the DVD-DL 9 back ups that need no compression.
