Hi. My problem is, that it won't burn my dvd's. When I put a dvd-r in and press burn it makes an error a few seconds later. I have unchekked reallocate VIDEO_TS because I have made 1 out of 7 and the one was with reallocate unchekked. But when i put a rewritable in i doesn't have any problems please help me. My firmware is 1.07 and I'm really desperate because i used dvd decrypter for a time, but recently it won't burn it says semafor timeout period expired. My log for imgtoolsburn is this. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Hi,

You might try running ForceASPI 1.8 and see if that doesn't help :) A semaphore timeout means that your system is losing communication with your drive which could be related to an outdated ASPI. Here's a link to instructions and the download:

http://forceaspi18.w.interia.pl/

If ver. 1.8 doesn't help, ver. 1.7 can be downloaded from this site and may be more compatible :)

Let us know how it goes.

Did ForceASPI 1.7 not help either?

I just noticed your burner is external, is it running on a USB1.1 or USB2 port? USB 1.1 is too slow to run a burner correctly.

I've just tried it, but it didn't help either. It's an USB 2.0 by the way. I've read on dvddecrypters homepage, that it is a semaphor timeout. The problem is described on the front page, but the man who made the program says it's thousands of people with that problem, but he can't figure the problem out, so he hopes that an microsoft member or another expert will visit his page an help solving the problem. So it's apparently thousands of people with the same problem. And i don't know any other programs that dvddecrypter and Nero that is good to burn dvd's.

SOLUTION!!!!!
All you have to do is update your XP USB driver. If you go to your windows update you can pick this out from the list. Mine works fine now after the same problem you describe.

To update just use windows update. go to start then look to the top of the menu until you see windows update, click it and then agree with everything. There has been numerous problems reported on the internet regarding USB 2.0 and as Neph stated Semaphore timeouts.

THAT'S A NEGATIVE!!
I thought that was the answer but it's statrted doing it again. It must be a driver issue but also an external closure issue because I have 2 of these units, the other unit (different make & model)has never produced this issue!!

Are you supplying your USB with enough power. Many mainboards come with power adjustments in the CMOS (bios set-up). Truth is, I've communicated with numerous people who've discovered that their systems power supplies were inadequate for burning dvds' Your problems seems to be cause by an apparatus time-out (Semaphoer=apparatus)which suggests that something is affecting your transfer rate and it may not necessarily be your DVD burner. If your affected transfer is caused by your hard disk then you might want to keep it defragged. Ripping movies onto your hard disk and then deleting even a couple of them causes quick hard disk fragmentation. Since you are I believe running a 4200 RPM 30 gig hard disk from a Note Book PC (nmore hardware specs would be helpful). It could be that you are going to need to optimize your system by closing every uneeded application, don't use battery if you have direct power access, defrag your hard disk before trying aburn.

SOLUTION! Until they find a solution just use copy2dvd as someone suggested me. It's doesn't make any problem with semaphor and until the find a solution use the program as me.

It's unlikely that the time out is being caused by the software and more likely that it is his PCs response to the software's request for resources that is responsible. A 4200 RPM hard disk is pretty slow by any standards and if it's filled to the brim and its even a little fragmented a time-out or even a lock-up is likely. If he has less than 512 megs of physical memory running Windows XP, then the hard disks swap or paging file is going to increase the drag on it. Couple that with a fraqmented hard disk and you get Semaphore (which generally refers to an appartus and not software) timeouts.

I have been having the same problem. So one day i decided to just keep clicking retry for the hell of it. It worked, all my dvd's by doing that have been successful. The only problem is that you have to sit there and click retry a coulpe hundred times or so. Well that's for me burning at 1x speed. If you burn at a faster speed u probably won't need to click retry that many times. For me it takes about a little longer than an hour to burn that way I burn to the max. I fill up the entire disc. Hope this helps.
