Most DVD burners now do dual layer discs, you need to buy DL discs for them, and they take a while to burn, but yes you will need them to burn many 360 games.

Oh I like that idea, but I guess it's another taste matter. My Lexa has those...

I find it helps airflow and (airflow based) noise if turned...not much, but noticable.

hmm, I can't hear my Cuda, but the Raptor 37GB is a real noisy beggar, but I suppose without loud fans to drown it out, it's going to seem louder...

Hey.. i know that emachines is a n Nvidia fann..
but the X1900XT is the best value compared to the 7900GTX for anything of the sort.. the pixel sharders help greatly with games like doom 3 FEAR, oblivion, and other games that use really high special efects. Nvidia has all those pipelines, but ati has the overall FLOW.. 16pipes and the pixel shader unites per pipe.. i think it has like 3 pixel shader units per pipeline..
so that and a 3800 should do you good.. if you are going to overclock the 3800 that is..
i have a sunbeam trio, and it works.... i like it.. but would not prefer it. so have fun waiting..

Yeah, The X1900XT also of course allows Anti-Aliasing and HDR at the same time, a 7900GTX or any nVidia for that matter will only allow you either. I typically don't use AA often, I just crank up the AF and set a high resolution, at 1920x1200 in the case of UT04 I'm not even sure it'll change anything, other than give a lower framerate.

imho Plextors are overkill for most, they're just too much money for what they are. My LG GSA-4163 was great, I havent had much of a chance to test the NEC ND4570 yet but I know it reads CDs and DVDs fine...

Ignore the reviews, I've never heard of a single DVD-ROM drive be faulty in the history of all the people I know and all the PCs at school (and I was an admin assistant so I'd hear about it).

And yet, I'm going to be awkward and not recommend either, based on experience!

Liteon or Benq, to be frank the Liteons at school are getting pretty haggard and they've seen almost no use, and I had two Benq CDRW drives a few years ago that had a combined lifetime of about 10 weeks. I didn't bother replacing the second one, it's too much of a waste to replace a CDRW drive every month. The subsequent LG and Panasonic drives were fine, and I expect the NEC to be too.

Those raptors are pricy! Are they worth it? I'm wondering if I should get a 75g raptor and then a bigger cheaper drive? Like put my games on the raptor and movies and all other data on a cheaper slower drive?
