The PSU is a 'Orion XP400'. I think you should stick to buing a new PSU. Better safe than Sorry. Has anyone even herd of Orion.

Nope. I normally recommend PSUs even more expensive than that Tagan, but for a budget PC, it dominates most of the other components cost-wise.

What is the difference between socket 939, 940 and AM2?

I want a new AMD dual core, does it matter which socket I get?

ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe, AMD 4200 X2, ATI All-In Wonder X1900, Corsair 2GB PC6400, Seagate 80 gig SATA, Maxtor 200 gig SATA, WD 200 gig PATA.

939 is the cheaper, older but better established platform. Good if you won't be upgrading for a year or so, since it's cheaper and you can get more stuff for it.
AM2 is the later platform, less experience and products for it, but it's the newest design and supports DDR2, not that that's anything to shout about.
940 is the server-specific opteron-only platform, very specialised for a new build and not really recommended.

So guys after utilizing advice from this forum and computerforum I was able to put together a system I feel pleased with that came in about about 20 under my 550 budget. Take a look and tell me what you think.

AMD 3800+ X2 AM2 Socket

Samsung SpinPoint 250GB SATA 3.0 HDD

RaidMax xB ATX Case

XClio 450BL 450W PSU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817189003

I really happy I was able to get a dual core but the only two things I'm skeptical about are the 450W PSU because I will add two more RW drives to it and the cheap RaidMax case but my current comp went out and kinda forced me to order something so here it is. I wanted the 500W XClio Goodpower(Out of Stock) or a Rosewill 500W but decided to with the 450BL because of all the good reviews. Do you guys thinks this will be able to hold up to an additional 2 or 3 drives are do I need more power?

Yeah I still don't recommend lower cost PSUs but that's just because I'm a bit biased after having one destroy half my PC. Also don't forget you need a Graphics card. The rest is fine.

herrick: The difference is quite marginal really, my Audigy 4SE for £17 does me fine.
burksdb: Looks fine to me mate, you know where it's at with parts! However, you must get a different power supply. The one that comes with the case will be rubbish.

Hi guys,
New rig! (In sig.)
I have been gathering this stuff for weeks now, scheming and laying my plans... LoL :^)
No Sandra yet, not even CPU-Z because I'm all ready to go once my Conroe shows up (ETA Wednesday 9th).
But hey, I was running SocketA, same basic rig since ~2003... I've fixed a whole lot of other rigs newer/better than my own for quite a while now - so I deserve this.
Nobody likes the E6400 but me it seems, but it will be good! It was very reasonably priced (my memory cost more).

Hi Sammorris,
You know what I mean, everyone is hot for an E6700 (or - the Extreme!) and others are attracted by the E6300's price and availability as it is in stock 'as we speak'.
But true true, we will see...
It is a nice single-vidcard rig, a tiny fraction of the cost of motorcycles I have owned over the years. I still want a new bike too, LoL
But I'm very lucky to have never (seriously) injured myself...

Has anyone used Hiper PS? I was considering using this power supply for my new machine.

So far I'm looking at:

Sort of, depends on what you're using it for. The X1900XL All In Wonder is a very video-work based card. An X1900GT might be a better option if you don't do loads of video work. Geil RAM is good, but others prefer Corsair. PSU is good as is CPU. I have a 580W Hiper and it's great. They work all the way up to 630W. The Gigabyte board is OK, but I doubt you'll find better for that little.

I want to play some games with this PC, but it won't be it's primary focus. I saw the X1900 card for $200 so I thought that was a good deal. I like the All-In-Wonder Cards and would like to get another one with my new PC.

Is there another MB that you would recommend?

he X1900 AIW is a very good card with outrageous features, but you could also have a slightly more powerful X1900GT for less at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814142068

I think PvtJoker wanted 2 IDE Ports. Thats why he went for the nForce4 based Mober over a nForce5 based Mobo. I would go with nForce5 and buy a cheap PCI Controller Card.

Maybe it might be cheaper if you get a X1900 Based card and a seperate TV Tuner.

Well no because the All In Wonder cards are the lowest end of the range performance-wise, so they are cheaper than other X1900s. The X1900 All in wonder is an X1900XL.
