Toshiba p25-s607 dvd-rw drive not reading cd's

This is my second toshiba laptop that has had dvd-rw drive issues.

Currently, when i insert any cd, cd-r, or cd-rw into the dvd-rw drive it will read the cd, then tell me its empty.

If i try to write to an empty disc, it will have an error part of the way through writing.

I have not tested this on dvd's yet, but the system was working fine untill yesterday.

I used to have the problem where every once and a while the drive would stop recognizing that i had loaded media. My solution to this was to take the drive out of its bay and reseat it. This worked for all of the problems untill yesterday.

Can anyone help?
