I've been having trouble installing a Sound Blaster X-Fi extreme audio PCI sound card mod.#SB0790
Here's the story; Uninstalled previous card. Turned off onboard audio in BIOS.
Install CD auto runs then goes to install. On first attempt, "Error......unable to detect hardware..." message appears, click 'OK'
Install's second attempt seems to work! Success message, Exit, Restart, Found New Hardware,
(tried install from here = error; no hdw found, tried cancel, CD, 'setup.exe' same result)
Creative Prod. Reg. works fine, finds hdw., Reg. complete, No update found.
Tried to install driver; XFXA_PCDRV_LB_1_04_0079, Same error message"...unable to detect..."
Device Manager; ! Multimedia Audio Controller (code 28), Tried to reinstall driver, "No support device found"
You have a hardware issue. Either the card or the bus connection for the card is not working correctly. You can try switching cards with another slot. You might get lucky in that it is the bus and what wasn't working in the one slot works on the other and that the second device does not need the broken channel. Actually, you would be luckier if it was the card.
defo faulty card.. spent a long time on one of these doing the same a few months back
managed to get a screech out of it by changing it's interrupt setting.. onboard modem was on IRQ8.. the only one soundblasters seem to ever want to use.. but no proper sound.. might work if you look for anything using IRQ8 and send it somewhere else.. 11 or 12 are usually free
Serial port 1 address: Disabled, 3F8/IRQ4, 2F8/IRQ3, 3E8/IRQ4, 2E8/IRQ3, & Auto Parallel port address: Disabled, 378/IRQ7, 278/IRQ5, 3BC/IRQ7
Parallel port mode: Normal, EPP, ECP, BI-Directional
If nothing is using 8 you do not have a problem with IRQs. Then it is the card. It was a long shot but you needed to check that out before you bought a new card.
