Between my dad and me we had beaucoup LPs that's I converted to MP3. I'd like to convert some to 5.1 or isn't it worth the bother?

No it is not! A well made mp3 sounds just like lossless but it is not lossless. The problem is compressed audio does convert without some loss. The more compression the more loss. Usually vinyl capture is made lossless. You at least make a CD before you compress the audio. Then you have a lossless archive.

If your mp3s are HiFi I would try so and see what they sound like. If your mp3s are good enough what you lose may not be hearable.

Many sound systems thought to be good are really very low fidelity. Many persons refuse to listen to anything but lossless (4-40,000 Hz) on a system that can only reproduce sound very low fidelity sound like computer speaker that produce 50-15,000. Yet they claim they can hear the difference. MP3s are good for 4-20,000 Hz that is the range of a great HiFi and the limit of human hearing. Only very young humans can hear 20,000 Hz. Buy 20 you can't 18,000 or lower if you listen to even mildly loud music.

There are tools/apps that'll do it, but I have to agree with our friend Mez..Not worth it(IMO)..Just let the stereo/amp simulate surround sound..Should sound decent enough for your ears..Or try this,good luck!

Thanks, guys. My old Kenwood HTB-503 has a "channel" called DVD 6 channel so I'll use it off my older Panasonic 5 disc.
