I need instructions on how to convert my system over to fat 16.
I have 2 hard drives.
I have just bought a 60GB drive to add to my system and when setting up during install I was asked if I wanted to create partitions or have a single large drive, I clicked for partitions and didn't receive any further options. When I check in my computer it tells me I only have 1.99 GB of space available. How do I access the remaining space?? It seems to be hidden!

Also I have 5GB of space available on the old hard drive but is set as Fat 32 and want it changing to Fat 16 so that I can back up my DVD's. This old hard drive is partitioned in two sections and the 5GB is the primary, can I change this without reformatting?
Thanks in advance guys ;-)

Hi wrxsti5
What operating system are you running. If XP format the new drive to NTFS as one large drive. Running FAT16 is a downgrade from FAT32. FAT32 has a file size limitation of 4G, this causes large movies to be split into 2 or more files. NTFS does not have this same limitation.
I hope this helps

I don't think you want Fat 16, that would not be good.
IF I am not mistaken Depending on the OS you are running THe HD limits are Fat 16 is limited to 2Gb, Fat 32 limits at either 8Gb or 32Gb depending on the OS and NTFS limits at 137Gb.

As for file sizes you would want NTFS as Fat32 does have the 4Gb file size restriction.

What OS are you running?

There is two ways to go about this using f disk from a start up disc. But the easiest way is to go to the web site of the manufatcure hard drive you puchased.Down load the diagnostic tool from there web site this will allow you to format low/fast in any format you want fat 16 , 32 and ntfs.It will also allow you to size it were needed. As it sound like you have not used this drive much yet as most has been hidden.Do a quick format. Then use the set up part of the software to do the rest. The software always down loads on to your hard drive which when you click in to it will automaticlly ask you to put a floppy in.You may need 1 or 2.Once you have put it on to floppy just re start your pc with the floppy in and it will boot up the diagnostic tools and then follow the easy guides.

OK sounds like I've misunderstood some information somewhere along the lines!
I am using windows me.
I have just acquired disk magic today and am going to try and do it with this.
Not really too sure on how to do it though.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanx again guys.
