I didn't use to get this error (see screenshot), but now I am getting I/O errors when trying to copy a DVD to the harddrive. I have tried using both DVD Decrypter, Nero and Windows own copy program, but I get the I/O error everytime on both my DVD drives.

I am not sure whether it has anything to do with the 200gb SATA drive I recently installed. Anyone got an idea of what to do? I'd appreciate any help!

Are you getting this error on the same disc or all discs that you try?

If it's just with one disc, I'd say the disc has corrupt data on it.

Nephilim> I am getting the error on all DVD's I have tried so far (approx. 5). That's a good point though.

It might help to make sure your ASPI layer is up to date. ForceASPI 1.7 is a good one. Let me know if you need help with it :)

Checking DMA settings would be good too.

I installed ForceASPI 1.7 and restarted the computer; I am still getting the error though.

My DMA looks ok, but correct me if I am wrong (see screenshot below). Do you have any other good ideas? Thanks for helping.

The "Current Transfer Mode" setting should read something like "Ultra DMA Mode 2" or something to that effect and not N/A.

What are the devices on the chain? Are they both optical drives? If they are, I'd suggest uninstalling both drives through Device Manager, reboot, then let Windows automatically detect and reinstall the drives. Check the settings again see if that cleared up whatever problem there was with the transfer modes.

Here's an informative link regarding DMA issues:

Nephilim> I have to postpone trying the suggestions out, as some things have come up. I will be able to try your suggestions on Saturday and I'll let you know if it worked.

Yes, both drives are optical (a DVD drive and a DVD+RW drive). I tried uninstalling them as you suggested and now they say "Multi-Word DMA Mode 2" and "Ultra DMA Mode 2" (see screenshot), so atleast that looks better, however I am still getting an I/O Error (see screenshot).

Other tips you (or anyone) have that I could try out; I am pretty much open to trying everything except format C:\.
