Not all dvd players are compatible. If they are compatible, just have to burn it right. I like DVD Shrink w/ DVD Decrypter.

I also lean towards Shrink(rip) & Decrypter(burn).

Not the kind of question that belongs in the 'advanced' forums, plus a simple search would provide a few hundred (if not thousand) posts on this subject, with wildly different opinions.

Yes, you can if the movie is smaller than 4.7GB. If its bigger than that you will not be able to burn, because DVD Decrypter does not compress.

creamteam: The thing about such simple questions is that they can have very complicated answers...This is one of those situations. Why don't you tell us what exactly you want to do. How many different DVD players do you have? What equipment do you have? Why DVD-R?

What I want to do is back up DVDs using a program that will play on the widest variety of DVD players. I currently have a 25 pack of TDK 4x DVD+Rs. I don't want to run into a problem where I purchase a new DVD player and my backed up DVDs wont play on it. I would really like to be able to play them on a PS2 without a mod chip, if there is a way. Thanks

creamteam: you have DVD+R which is compatible with 85-90% of stand-alone DVD players. You indicate you still have to buy a DVD player. Use the link Nephilim gave you for some guidance. I do believe that you should not have any problem. Pretty much ALL new DVD players will be OK with DVD+R. Even DVD-R and DVD+/-RW should work fine on any recent player.

The software program you use to rip and burn should not have much effect on the compatibility. Shrink with Nero or Decrypter, CloneDVD2, DVDXCopy, 1 Click DVD, etc. should be about equivalent in quality. Probably the MOST important factor is to buy GOOD quality discs. Verbatim, Ritek are favorites here.

I have used TDK myself, once in a while you'll get a disc that messes up towards the end of the movie. I recommend you try what you got. It should be OK. Next time you need a new supply, find a good 'deal' on Verbatim/Ritek. Mind you, NO brand works 100% of the time with EVERY DVD burner.

Also make sure you have the latest firmware for your burner. The firmware updates make your burner more compatible with increasing numbers of various DVD Media...

Good luck

I normally use DVD Decrypter and then after it is done, I use DVD Shrink to compress the files. Works perfect every time.

SW20, If your just using Decrypter and Shrink. Use Shrink first (to rip, and compress), then use Decrypter to burn. This should save you some time. If Shrink won't rip the disk, then use Decrypter.
