hello all,

ok well, im new to the whole dvd authoring thing, and so far, not a great start.

I'm trying to make a dvd video of a bunch of avi files. i recorded a bunch of videos i made in avi format and i wanna put them all on a dvd to play in my dvd player.

my main question is why do the avi's seen to take up so much room? like i put 3 30min video clips on, and its at 4.5 GB? why is this? these files are only
352 x 240 resolution, so they are not hight quality at all.

i would like to know how i can fit like maybe 6 or so 30min avi video clips on 1 dvd -r for svs player play back.

thanks

The file size depends on the quality of the file, which I am sure you are aware - although the resolution is one factor, the Frames Per Second is ultimately the thing that decides the file size. A program like TMPGEnc is ideal for adjusting this and altering the size. For copying however, try using WinDVD Creator, you can download a trial from Intervideos website. It's only a basic DVD authoring program but you can add menus and music as well as chapter select which would be ideal if you are adding several clips to one DVD - this should adjust the size accordingly, and providing you select 2 hour DVD from the options, you should have no probs in fitting on a few clips. Let me know how you got on.

What program are you using? You can either adjust the bitrate in your encoder, if using one, or adjust the bitrate in your authoring program.

What is 'svs player'?

im using nerovision right now

what bitrate do u recomend? ill looking for ok quality, nothing special, cuz im starting out with pretty low quality already.

also, is it a time restriction or a 'u can only encode 2 min' restriction on the trial windvd?

my original plan was to encode the avi's and menu i made into VOB's with nerovision and then use dvdshrink to take it down to a 4.7 GB disc.

do u know where u can ajust the bitrate in nerovision?

thanks again

btw typo svs=dvd

You should read the NVE documentation to get a feel for merging, chapter stops etc. To adjust the bitrate go to More-> Video Options-> DVD- Video. You can use the presets under 'Quality Setting' or use 'Custom' and set it yourself. The goal is to make it fit on a blank.

You should use the software these guy's mention.Sometimes the AVI files may not be picked up by these software's mentioned.I use easy x video converter to convert to mpeg when not possible with the software mentioned. Then i put it through the software mentioned to convert to dvd.
