I have been backing up my dvds using shrink/nero and they have been ok on my 45" tv. I am building a dedicated HT room with a 110" front projection screen. After reading the review at http://www.dvd.box.sk/articles8.php I am worried that after all the copying once I blow these DVDs up to 110", pixelation will become more obvious with shrink/nero. It seems from reading hundred of posts that Instant Copy8 and DVDCOPY2 are two favorite paid type programs. However, with dvdcopy2 I don't like the fact that you can't adjust the speed of the burn. Currently I burn at 1x with Nero to get the best quality. Time is not a factor for me, I rather have the best end result. Any major issues with Instantcopy? Does this also need to be used with anydvd? With either of these two programs, can one rip with decrypter to HD, then use the files from the HD to transcode with instantcopy or dvd2? Would the files quality be affected since they have been ripped by another program? All inputs appreciated.

If you are thinking of moving upto a 100" projection screen setup, and you say that time is not a factor, I would recommend you use DVDrebuilder with CCE basic to get the best out of your new setup. It knocks the pants off, in my opininon, all the transcoders that are out there.
I, personally, feel that the dvd.box.sk test was biased towards Intervideo dvdcopy & that Pinnacle is far superior in quality. Intervideo dvdcopy 2 also has a serious bug where large pixellation (usually light in color) randomly appear, but not always, on processed movies. (ps you can send the "output" from Intervideo to hard drive, then use nero to burn)
Pinnacle is slow compared with other transcoders, but if it's quality youre after then thats the product for you. Pinnacle at version 7 had problems with "oversizing & undersizing" the output files, which can be infuriating (but with "Hidden settings editor" that problem is reduced). Pinnacle is currently at version 8 but I have not upgraded to this package. Pinnacle can accept files from DVDdecrypter/Smatripper or "Movie only" rips (uncompressed) via DVDshrink re-author. Pinnacle can "output" a file to hard drive as an image, then DVDdecrypter comes in handy to burn it.
I hope this helps

There is an excellent guide on this forum on DVDrebuilder/CCE (Just hit the "guides" tab at the top of this page. If you search on CCE basic in google, you should find a link in no time at all.
Before you leap, do some research, then do some more, on Rebuilder at :-

Rebuilder is FREE and currently at Beta. IT is constantly being updated, almost daily. CCE basic is about $50

As for as Pinnacle's IC goes, on their website they have a product called "Instant CD/DVD 8" and "Instant copy 8" which one do I need to get, and how can I make sure to get the latest version? If I purchase from their website would I get the latest or can I just update through them?

The downoaded section from the pinnacle web site will be the latest version. It's also a free trial (i think) so you can try it before spending.

The Rebuilder/CCE route makes the most sense for such a large screen, or burn to 2 discs. I also feel there is no real reason to burn at 1X for 'quality', maybe for compatabilty in some cases.

Do you guys think Rebuilder/CCE has a better quality than InstantCopy8? A lot of people like the quality of IC8, and in the big movie test it did quite well, almost identical to the original. How much better can Rebuilder/CCE get?

In my opinion, it's a significant improvement & definitely worth you adopting this system for your specific application. But it is NOT required for every movie. Any movie over 6Gb in filesize or over 2 hours in length I use rebuilder. Under these 2 levels I use Pinnacle.

IC8 has a free trial. Try it and let your own eyes be the judge.

If I could get IC8 to work it would be great for a comparison. I just tried to copy Scarface 20th anniversary 7.6gb. I ripped with Decryptor as an iso image to hd, then used IC8 trial, after 2-3 hrs, it tells me that my file is oversized for the disk, eventhough it was showing to be 4.31GB on the slider thingy. Most people complain about undersizing. I did it a second time, and after another 2hrs same thing. This is frustrating.
