I apologize for laughing, it wasn't you it was a comedy of errors! The bad news is its your equptment you need to invest in a new DVD reader that can rip your files. The good news is that they are plentiful and cheap to buy. Once you get a good reader then you will be able to rip and the burning will be a small step from there.

Well the burner is new, only 8 months old, it was quite expensive, and as i said no problem burning to +r disks or +rw, it's only this copying a copy of +r that is the problem. Really don't want to buy anotehr drive.

Ok, I am now trying DeCrypter. What is the best software to get it from HDD back to a dvd?
I appreciate your help by the way.

Try using DVDShrink to extract the disc to an ISO file. Disable burn in Nero option, and select to use DVDDecrypter instead. Then DVDShrink will extract the disc to an ISO file, and automatically launch DVDDecrypter with the correct settings to make your disc for you.

I used to swear by DVDXcopy, but since I got tipped off to Shrink, I'm converted.
I still use Xcopy as it is so easy, and there seems to be a bug with DVDShrink inasmuch as it always seems to have subtitles switched on by default. It could easily be pilot error though, and the bug is in my brain.

I ended up using decrypter to rip to hard disk, then used dvd xcopy Platinum RF (the one without the encryption bypass) to burn from the hard disk. Don't know why but this doesn't seem available anymore on 321studios site.
Anyway I have the pre banned version of dvd xcopy Platinum as well as the RF version which enables you to browse your hard disk, and it is magic.
Two clicks, does the compression, you can choose to leave stuff out if you want, but I prefer to get all the menus and everything. The quality on a standard definition tv to my eye is indiscernible from the original and I am very fussy about picture quality. I stuck with beta vcr's all these years. Where they compromise is on the extrras, the quality is quite poor there sometimes but the movie quality is excellent.
Back to the original problem, I still can't work out why I can't replicate from +R disks using dvd xcopy or Second Copy which is quite good software if not encrypted and 4.3gb, it's quite fast. No problem with +RW disks, must be my burner's idiosyncrosy I guess.
