I've been backing up for quite a while using DVD Decrypter and DVDFab (Use fab when decrypter doesn't work) but lately more and more I've been noticing failures with newer movies. For example the last airbender just will not decrypt for me. I'm wondering what tool I should be using as I have heard these programs have aged a bit. Is there a better option?

ANYDVD is Pretty Good. DVDFab Is Good if you Keep it UpDated.

Can't Get Much Better Than 1&2.

People Have Backed it up with Both and Some Even Claim to Have done it With Shrink.

Thanks a few years ago I was using DVD decrypter for ripping and anydvd for burning. Stopped needing dvds when i got wdtv. Never used anydvd for ripping so I'll give it a shot.

AnyDVD can never be used for burning a movie. You need something like what you have or CloneDVD2 to burn the movie (with AnyDVD running in the background, of course.)

getanacctis right, Anydvd is NOT a burn engine.

For newer titles you need one of the top two in either AnyDVD or DvdFab (as stated by Berryone). Both need to be kept updated as they are coming out with new encryptions and copy protections all the time.

Or you need a general purpose ripper, libdvddecss, a psl dumper .. and some coding skills.

I like doing disney disks.. great fun... always a challenge. The best trick these days is they seem to have found a way to selectively delay the audio stream in relation to the video stream.. when you dump to mpeg2.. thats fun.

RipIt4Me is a good free front-end that will create a PSL for DVD Decrypter. I have never had a problem with it, although I have to admit I haven't ripped anything that has been released in the last six months or so.
