Recent Audio Prob - Mono sound on DVD Burn

A strange problem just started happening. I have been burning DVD's for a while now, using moviefactory 3 or tmpgenc DVDAuthor mostly... The past 4 burns have come out with sound in left speaker only. I have never had this problem before.
I am creating compilations of cartoons from avi files converted to dvd compliant mpeg using mainconcept mpeg encoder. When I author and burn the DVD it comes out mono even though the file itself plays in Stereo. I tried splitting the video and audio into mpv and wav files, they sound and look fine alone yet when I author it no matter what settings I use it comes out one speaker. This is both using moviefactory 3 and tmpgenc DVDauthor.
Recently installed Vegas 5.0 and DVD architect and used them but same problems.
Possibly a codec problem? Or am I just overlooking something.
