I'm saying if you have Windows 2000 or XP, let windows manage main memory unless you are using large files (DVD ripping) then increase your paging file to more than one and a half or two times the actual memory. My system can use up to 4 times my 1 gig for paging. The old 1 and a half to two times memory size was a limiting factor to virtual memory intended to increase main memory efficiency.

Thanks for clarifying. Interesting enough, my page file often approaches 3.5 GB with 512 MB DDR...and so I have my VM set at 4 GB. As my own experience differs from the "experts", I was reluctant to advise a value greater than the published 1.5X to 2X.

No big deal, I used those same standards from 96 to 2000, and like you I eventually learned they're no longer relevant.

Thanks to "nsun38" another mystery is unraveled. Some weeks ago I bought a Lit-On Burner and a pack of disks at CompUSA at an outragously low price. 50 DVD-R's for only $20. Naively, I assumed that the combination would work with each other. But, the disks wouldn't burn with Nero...got that nasty buffer message. My reaction was for $20, live and learn....

Nsun38's message reminded me that DVDDecrypter also had an ISO Writing function...so this weekend I gave it a shot. Lo and behold, while the ISO burning process is somewhat tedious...IT WORKED. DVDDecrypter also cleary identified these CompUSA cheapies as Princos. (Their surface is white with the CompUSA logo printed in Grey). So far I burnt about 5 disks without any glitches. At 40 cents a pop, you can be much less discriminating as to what movies go into the home archives!

This forum and the internet came through again to make this world a better place. Thank you everyone.
