I have an Asus A7N8X-X with an Athlon AMD XP3200 processor but my computer speed is only showing as 2.19GHz.

What can I do? This doesn't seem right!

The clock speed is only 2.19ghz because this is how amd is. 3200 doesnt mean it is 3.2ghz this is just the name. I fyou want to get it higher u can overclock it but this will higher the temp and u can tget much more out of it. maybe 2.4ghz/2.5

I heard that the XP3200+ should be around 2.6 or 2.7GHz

The XP2500 is around 2.1Ghz

I've checked it all out on different websites and 2.1GHz AMD is equivalent to P4 2.7GHz

Hi,
the only AMD chip that would be slated as a 2.7GHz equivelant would be the 2700+, it runs at 2.17GHz.

The 3000+ runs at the same speed, but has the extra cache advantage.

All 2500+ cpus, unless overclocked, run at 1.83(ish)

you should be fine with your 3200+ without overclocking, but the reported 2.19GHz is correct for your chip.
edit: you also have the extra fsb advantage.

True on both counts and I might add that "different websites" (including the opinions thrown around here), have differing views as to what "outperform" and "equivalent" mean. A lot of them will quote benchmark this benchmark that and that's fine and dandy if you plan to play video games or something 24x7.

Hello Flakey,
I have overclocked my 2500 barton as well,
Take a look below at my specs.
As you can see I had to raise the fsb to 400 (which is 200 in the bios) and had to raise the vcore to 1.775 otherwise it wouldn't boot to windows.
I'm also running 1Gig of 400ddr ram.

You may not need to raise the vcore voltage like I did if you have a decent enough power supply.
At the time my psu was a 300watter which just wasn't stable enough for my system.
Since then I have built a computer for one of my workmates but I took the 350w psu out of the new case and put it in mine temporarily until I get hold of a 550watter. It's running very stable now so maybe I can drop the vcore again.

I tried that PCWizard myself tonight and it caused havoc with Asus probe. Asus probe is very temperemental isn't it.

Flakey
Play a game or two to stress your system (QuakeIII)
If it survives, you've cracked it.

True but the Probe doesnt actually "do" anything so "havok" shouldnt be a problem -- SiSoft does the same thing.

1. Quake3 isnt a stressful application.... hell my P3-800 with a GF2MX can play that
2. Even if you test it on a more strenous game like say UT2004, it may not bring out all the kinks :)
