Subtitle Problems with ConvertXtoDVD

Most times everything has gone beautifully.
But recently, if burning an MKV file with subtitles using ConvertXtoDVD, I find that my Oppo BDP-83 player just will not show the subtitles at all, even if I use the subtitle-shift facility to lift their position.
As a test I burned a DVD using ConvertXto DVD's subtitle positioning page to move the subtitle to the central part of the screen. I could view this, but of course having subtitles in the centre of the screen would wreck most movies.
Is there a way to rectify this? I have no idea why burning with subtitles in the normal way is suddenly no longer working!
