I have had this hard drive for a short time (about 2 months). I have archived most of my music on to it. However recently I have put some mp3 albums on it and made a playlist for them. The playlist plays but I cannot see the files in the folder I put them in.

Can anybody help me please

Thanks

Thats odd. Are you connecting to Windows XP system with it? It sounds like there is not data loss, but the addressing of the folder on the drive are not good. How is it connected (Firewire or USB). Have you tried it on a second computer or have you tried turning off and on or unplug and replug.

I have a Western Digital 250Gb external to WinXP computer by USB2 and have not experienced any problems yet.

Thanks

I am in the UK & I brought it from the USA. Yes I am connecting it to window's XP (Home Edition) via USB. I haven't tried it on a second computer yet. & yes I have tried unplugging it & then replugging itbut no luck yet. I can see the files in it that I put in that folder b4 but not recent ones. Then main folder of concern I cannot see loads of the files.

Thanks

Thats quite odd. Check the setings of the drive by Right clicking and selecting properties in Win explorer. There is a setting there about optomizing folders for quick removal of device or an other setting I can`t remeber. But select the quick removal one. An other setting that might be doing it is the folder view settings, make sure you can see all files. Give these a try, I will need to see How I have mine connected by I am work now. I will let you know later.
Good luck

COuld it be a disk error? Try running chkdisk or something to that effect :)

What I was talking about was under the policies tab, there are two choises. The first is Optimixe for quick removal and the second is optimize for performance. The difference is the the performance one a database is writen you your computer C drive and if you disconect or turn off it screws up the location setting. The first choise about quick removal keeps all the data and info on the specific drive you added. So you can just remove it without any loss.
Make sure this is set to optimize for quick removal. YOu should also run scan disk on the drive to make sure it ok. Did you partition it or leave it one massive drive? IF not partioned its possible that WinXP is haveing some trouble with the size, but that really should not be a problem.

Sorry that I wasn`t clear. In Win Explorer, go to the Tools tab, select Folder option and in the view tab make sure you have show all files and show hidden files and folder. I like to see everything on my system without anything hidden.
