I bought DVD X Copy gold witch has DVD Xpress and DVD X Copy. Last week I just started making a lot of backups in a short period of time. I like using xpress better cause it only takes one disk, but all of a sudden after working perfectly for like 10 burns, all of a sudden when xpress goes to burn the disk (it reads the dvd just fine) it will burn for like 5 seconds, then will go to finalizing disk. I know nothing is wrong with the burner because DVD X Copy burns DVD's just fine. Can someone please help me out here.

So XCopy works fine, and Xpress does not. Right?

Have you tried to re-install the software?

coachop94,

You've got me kind of confused. Original post is about XCopy Gold... Do you have Gold or just Xpress? Also in your pm you mentioned the start button stays gray. This will stay gray until you've put a blank in and your ready to burn. So which is your problem...can't rip cause of css protection or can't detect or burn a blank disc?

The xcopy gold also includes xcopy xpress. It does see the original movie I want to back up and the start button is green. then I click the start button and it says movie is css protected and it's grayed out at that point. The DVD43 is green so it see the dvd too but it 's not doing what it should do.

I have some of 321 Studio's software on my PC. I had some trouble along the same lines, making coasters. Tier 2 tech assistance gave me a lengthy bulletin they had prepared. Seems that a number of popular software programs cause interference problems. They said the problem could crop up anytime; even after the program functioning well for an extended period.

A word of warning, try turning off programs before going through Add-Remove to remove permanently. I found my solution in the bulletin. My Roxio and anti virus software needed turning off before burning. Hope your problem may be as simple. You can skim the bold segments to see what applies, easier reading.

Here is the bulletin:

The following programs can cause problems while using our software. Your situation sounds like one of these are installed:
1. B's Clip: This package will load a packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start Windows. You will need to uninstall it in Add/Remove Programs, then reboot to remove it.
For more information, visit the B's website at http://www.bhacorp.com.
2. Direct CD or Drag to Disk: These are applications from Easy CD Creator from Roxio. This package will load a packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start Windows. To remove them you need to go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. There you can select Easy CD Creator to Change - not Remove. Then you click next until it gives you the option to Modify. Then either Direct CD or Drag to Disk should be selected and changed to "make this option not available". Then click Next. While the program may look like it is installing, it is actually removing those options.
For more information, please visit Roxio's website at http://www.roxio.com/en/support.index.jhtml
3. GoBack: This is backup software that constantly runs in the background (Terminate and Stay Ready) which not only needs to be turned off, but disabled. Unfortunately, this may cause some restore points to vanish, but it will free up a lot of hard drive space.
For more information visit Symantec's web site for GoBack at http://www.symantec.com/goback/index.html
4. DLA: Also HP-DLA, Veritas DLA, and others. DLA stands for Disk Letter Assignment. This package will load a packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start Windows. You will need to uninstall it in Add/Remove Programs, then reboot to remove it.
5. InCD: This is packet writing software that comes bundled with Ahead Nero Burning Rom.
For more information go to Nero's website at http://www.nero.com/en/
6. Interactual Player and PC Friendly Player: These programs are DVD software viewers that often come on DVD movie discs, and will try to install themselves everytime you watch a movie on your computer. Please make sure to NOT let these install. Both programs interfere with all 321 Studios software and should be un-installed from Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel when found. In some cases, you will need to uninstall and reinstall our software to restore functionality after removing one of these.
For more information about both players, visit http://player.interactual.com/
7. McAfee Anti-Virus: This is anti-virus software that when running, can cause errors. It needs to be disabled by right clicking on the icon in the lower right side of the task bar. The 321 Studios software then needs to be restarted. Whenever you are using our software, McAfee needs to be disabled to ensure unrestricted access to your drive.
For more info go to McAfee's website at http://us.mcafee.com/default.asp
8. Norton Anti-Virus: This is anti-virus software that when running, can cause errors. It needs to be disabled by right clicking on the icon in the lower right side of the task bar and the automatic updates should be disabled. The 321 Studios software then needs to be restarted. Whenever you are using our software, Norton needs to be disabled to ensure unrestricted access to your drive.
The Norton Website is http://www.symantec.com/
9. StopZilla: StopZilla can hinder required portions of our installer, causing the software to fail. Please completely disable StopZilla, then install our software. Once our software is installed, you may safely enable it again. If you have any difficulty using our software at a later time, you may need to disable StopZilla before going to use our software. Uninstallation is not required.
10. MyStorageGuard: This backup software can hinder certain required files from being copied during the installation. Please disable this program before installing our software, and have it disabled any time you go to use our software. Uninstallation is not required.
11. Napster 2.0: This software includes some basic burning software that can cause burning problems if it is running. You will need to close this program completely before trying to use our software. In some rare cases, you will need to completely uninstall this package to attain full reliability, so if disabling does not solve your issue, please try uninstalling this software, and try again.
12. Easy CD Creator 4.x: Due to the age of this package, it is no longer updated by the authors. There are bugs present in this older system that will cause NUMEROUS problems on your machine, not just with our software. Please Uninstall completely, and consider either the new 6.x version from Roxio (http://www.roxio.com) or Nero 6.x (http://www.nero.com). These packages, installed without the Packet Writing software (DirectCD/Drag to Disk/InCD), all work very well together with our software.
13. NTI FileCD: This program has packet writing software installed with it. This package will load a packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start windows. You will need to uninstall it in Add/Remove Programs, then reboot twice to fully remove it.
For more information go to NTI FileCD's Product page at http://www.ntius.com/default.asp?p=cdmaker/filecd_main
Spyware and Adware - some programs can install other software that can be damaging to your Operating System. Please scan for these programs with a Spyware utility. We recommend Ad-aware, available freely at www.lavasoftusa.com
If you perform any of these changes, you may need to uninstall our software, then re-install to fix any damage left. If you find some of these packages, please shut down and reboot twice to ensure that the last pieces of the conflicting software are completely removed.
Every version of windows requires updates. These updates correct a multitude of problems that are found, on many levels.

You will also want to update your Direct X control to insure full functionality of any of our programs. You will want to download, and install Direct X 9 from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/downloads
Certain programs running in the background can use system resources and cause our software to experience burning issues.
To disable your start up group go to start, run, and type in msconfig and hit enter, then click on the startup tab.
Windows XP(Home & Pro):
If you are running Windows XP you will click the disable all button.
Windows Me:
If you are running Windows Me disable all items that are not Windows system processes.
Windows 98:
If you are running Windows 98 disable all items except for Systray, Explorer and Scanreg.

I should have added that once you find the source of the problem, you may still have to go through ADD-Remove and delete the 321 software and reboot and reload the software. Check to make sure you can reactivate the program before you delete anything. 321 stopped support on some programs.

Thanks, brobear. That sure looks like a lot of drama to go through just to get one part of a program suite to work. I'd really like to know if the version I have was ripper enabled before I registered it online.I don't know why the disc says something different than what's in my add/remove programs area.I'll try some of these suggestions. I definately won't do them all.I would never get anything else done. lol

It really looks worse than it is. Just skim down the list and only look for programs you have on your PC. They should have highlighted the software titles. The various drive listings are lengthy, but if your drive is there you can simply click the URL and go to the site for a quick check to see if you have the right firmware. I updated mine. I think I'll go back and highlight some of the things so it will be easier to surf.

On the other side of the country (Eastern time). Just skim the Bold print to see what applies. Hope that helps. Shouldn't look as intimidating, not having to wade through the whole thing.

What a little editing can do... Now one can just read the bold and make sense of the bulletin in short order.

Coachop
Do you have any of the programs listed?
Other than checking to see if the PC has any of the listed programs, I didn't do much more than update my firmware for the burner. I'm running XP Home as the OS and haven't had to do any ASPI updates for my programming (which is extensive). Also, I was able to just turn off the offending software when recording. I was able to keep the software on the system for use, just not while burning.

As a precaution, I reloaded the software. This can be a problem now that 321 won't activate some of the programs. Check before you delete anything.

The Ad-Aware6 program does a good job and is free. I use it. I also have the Spysweeper from Webroot. You can get these free at CNet. If you haven't run them, you'll be surprised at what turns up. These are handy for more than just DVD recording clean up. Good utilities everyone should have.

The software should be labeled RF (ripper free) or not. As far as having the ripper version or not... The software would work without having to have a decryption program if ripper equipped. That just means, put the DVD in the drive, open the program, if it works and records as a standalone then it was ripper equipped. If you have to decrypt using a decryption program, then you have the ripper free. I am more familiar with the Platinum version numbers. The 3 series had a ripper. The four series was when they went to the RF. If you purchased software, it should have either had the RF (ripper free) or not on the labeling.

Another tidbit of info. The version number can differ from purchase version number if you did a download or upgraded the program. I went through a few upgrades before 321 discontinued support. I even downloaded the RF version. Here is a little handy advice. When downloading programs, it is a good idea to save them. In the case of 321, I saved all the updated versions on CD.

okay, I'llgo see if I need to update my firmware as for programs I do have Nero6 it does not appear to have INCD in the group.I'll turn off Norton, install Adware6 & Webroot Spysweeper.I'm running XP/SP1 it's kept up to date. My PC is Gateway510, Pentium4HT 3.06ghz,120g,512ram,Intel Extreme2 graphics card. I know I've got some adware on here I looked at the removal instructions on Norton's site and of course it warns about how the removal may cause the programs that install them may not function properly. My dauhgter likes to download music(makes me crazy) so I know that Imesh is a problem. Also Norton mentions about registry keys. Now that terrifies me. I just got this machine in Dec. never had one before & never uesd one before then.So I hope These things make it painless without messing up something important:) So thanks for the info hope I can get this working.

AnyDVD is a retail software similar to DVD43. There are several more of these on the market. I have AnyDVD, though I don't use it often. Some say it is better than the DVD43. I've gotten away from recording on the fly and using the background decrypters like AnyDVD and DVD43. That sort of leaves Express RF (ripper free) out as it only recognizes disc drives (unless they've changed things in the later versions). I have the older ripper version of Express, so I don't need the likes of AnyDVD for my program.

I have a personal preference for using the free DVD Decrypter to rip an ISO file to the HD and load that in an emulator like the free Daemon. Most software will pick up the simulated drive and use the ISO file the same as a disk in a drive. This set up works great with the Recode2 in Nero (hope you got the Platinum pack). All you do is load the decrypted ISO file in the emulator (simulated DVD ROM drive) and import the file to Recode2. Sounds a little complicated, but loading Daemon is easier than putting a disc in the physical drive. This decryption and setup method works with a lot of different software recording programs (all the ones I have except Express). There are a lot of pluses to using HD (hard drive) files. So, nothing to buy unless you need to upgrade your Nero to get Recode2.

InCD is included with the Nero package. If it isn't on the PC, good. It has a separate listing in ADD-Remove. When downloading the new upgrades from Nero, it is in a separate download pack, just don't open that one. If you haven't been to the Nero site, I would advise the visit. They just made additions to the program with the new updates.

Registry tools will clean up the registry problems (most of the time). Manually altering the registry can be dangerous. If you ever need to manually work on the registry, back up the registry and follow instructions closely.

Nope, wouldn't do that at all. Haven't really used the program. I do know InCD can cause trouble when burning DVDs. It's even noted by some software companies; case in point is 321 Studios. So the merits of the program are unknown by me. The downside and trouble with InCD was enough for me to remove it. If people suspect the program of causing problems, there is a simple solution; use Add-Remove in the control panel and delete InCD (it has a separate listing). If it wasn't the cause, simply reload it. A person is only looking at a simple removal and installation if necessary. It's a known culprit and from experience it caused burner problems for me and for others here at AD. Love that burner ROM and Recode2 though. 'Ey Verne.

Coachop said it was on his system and he was having troubles. He hasn't come back on to say whether or not it was a cause. Sounds like he had several offenders on his system.
