(I use a WD500 My Book). There are tutorials on here for Config USB Loader,
You need to have IOS222 and/or 223 installed on your Wii.
And as for saving your backups to your USB, you will be able to once you install the loader:
Config USB Loader:

I have used a WD 500G FAT and all I had to do was plug it in. It worked without formatting it to WBFS.

I was wondering, I have recently tried to install some newer games onto my hard drive using usbloader gx. One of the games was Smurf Dance Party. I have a 1 TB Seagate.

Update the cios's to ensure you have one with d2x v6 base 56 this is usually recommeded to go into 249. Then try again

Kittymat, I tried as you recommended. Not sure if it's USB Loader itself. I guess I'll have to resort to using WBFS to install the games manually to the hard drive. Thanks for the info.
