Hi I am trying to choose between the two DVD burners.
But the Pioneer will cost $22 more for an OEM model. The Optorite will cost $67 for retail package.
Pioneer is $89 OEM.

If there is not a big difference between the two I will go with the cheapest.

Should I consider a third option???

I would appreciate your feedback.

Thanks a lot,

That extra $22 for the Pioneer will be the best $22 you've ever spent.

Pioneer is about the best you can get and Optowrite is one of the worst.

I agree. Do a search here for Optorite and you'll see some threads where people literally spent months trying to get Optorites working.

I'd go Pioneer!

I own a Pioneer 106 & 107 model. Both work great burning anything and the most compatible with quality generic Sonic brand $0.30 dvd-rs too!

its something you would never understand--do you know what anagram means? obviously not. and your grammar is atrocious--but i am not here to quibble over silliness--if you people would take the time to configure a product, you would find excellent products, for a lot less dough. but because you are too lazy to configure a product, you bash it for some more known brand, because it made it easy for you. seems like you guys are the jerkoffs and if you would jerkoff less you could get your products to work--jerkies!!!--but have a great day--spaz!

Really? Then maybe you can explain why it is that so many more people have problems with Optorite burners than with Pioneer. Just because yours has always worked flawlessly doesn't mean they all do, or even that most of them do. It just means yours does. But I'm sure you're right. The people who posted to these threads (for months) are just lazy b@stards who didn't take the time to configure their computers during time they were having their problems:

I think this post from one of those threads pretty well sums it up
Quote:
Well i no longer own an optorite drive THANKGOD as i found it just too much of a problem. Instead i tried to take it back saying it didnt perform to its stated specification having never burned at 4x on any media and on most occcasions not recording correctly at 2.4. Now i know there are alot of people having trouble with these drives as this forum shows. I mean have a look at the numbers on this thread and you lot still think the ARU from sony is a turkey. Your all suffering from some kind of dillusion, you have bought a turkey that doesnt do what its supposed to do record accurately all the time at 4x speed on any media. You are the consumer stand up for your rights!!

Anyways i got my pioneer A06 and have now made 40 backups on several types of media all at 4x with not one coaster. Oh i couldnt take my optorite back so i binned it ( Yeah Where It Belongs ) dont put up with second best get what ur money said it would get you.
Funny, he didn't have any problems once he switched from an Optorite to a Pioneer. That doesn't even begin to cover the problems which range from people whose burners stopped working after one particular firmware update and some whose drive's region code wouldn't change. Yup, must be something they did wrong since those problems were only common with Optorite burners.

There are certainly a lot of people who have problems with Optorite burners (or any other piece of hardware) due to Windows, especially XP, but that doesn't mean it's user error. I've had XP installs with huge driver issues right from the beginning. All I had to do was reinstall from scratch and the problems were gone. It wasn't configuration problems or anything I did - it was Windows. There's also some hardware that's more reliable, with better quality control, and fewer conflicts with software or other hardware. Pioneer fits that description, and based on what people have reported here, Optorite burners (at least older ones) don't.

Configuration has nothing to do with Optorites being problematic. I've been in this game long enough to know that.

I've seen little to no problems that were directly related to a Pioneer drive but the same can't be said for Optowrite.

Your jab at Rotary's grammar is the classic sign of an idiot who can't argue facts so they turn to personal jabs on unrelated topics.

Thank you so much for contributing so much wisdom and positive thoughts to our site in your whopping two posts so far.

you know what? i am right. i buy a lot of products that dont work like i would like them too, and i take them back as well, but after i have taken the time to look at every possible, feasible explanation as to why it wasnt working properly--we as consumers have become lazy and complacent, but if they cant figure something out--then "stand up for your rights"--all crap! these products are smaller lesser known products made for schleps like you that buy into a name--oporite is a sanyo product, but a sanyo product will sell for more and an optorite for less but is virtually the same product--so get a grip--these forums in know way represent the mass majority buying this product--they represent the few and shamelessly proud idiots that cant work their 'puters. so get off your high horse and look at it for what it is worth--a small amount of people getting global attention on something that still remains very small.

No wonder you like Optowrite. Oh, and by the way the correct grammar is "like them to" not "like them too". Just so you know Mr. English Teacher :)

my jab at rotary is the classic sign of an idiot? isnt that the pot that called the kettle black? that is the sign of intelligence and the courtesy to correct our less fortunate, grammatically challenged brother.-- i could argue you pinheads into the ground anyday and come out swinging like a champ! but you idiots are obviously the wiser ones-- because of all your posts to the site, i on the other hand have better things to do than to devote my time to a forum. enough said on that.

please forgive my mistakes, but that still doesnt redeem you from being such a hypocrite! reverting to unrelated topics--does that sound familiar?--i can admit my mistakes and yes you pointed them out correctly--but can you effectively argue the subject at hand--obviously, nope. thats right, nope--good luck in consumer land --you schmucks--anything interesting--please post--other than that--dont waste my time--jerkies

Oh no, please, please, please stay! I could learn so much from you. Please take me under your wing and show me how to be an infant with a superiority complex.

All this time I've been wasting my time helping people with advice and facts when I could've been going on about how great I am. Will you show me the way?

Okay, if you had just said that you're right because you're knowledge isn't constrained by things like facts or empirical evidence we'd have known to ignore you. Basically what you're saying is that you're not stupid and lazy and you're Optorite works fine so anyone who has one that doesn't is stupid and lazy. Fair enough. I've seen similar logic used to prove that Ray Charles is God but I didn't actually believe that either. If you have something more helpful than "if yours doesn't work it's because you're a lazy dumbass" I'd love to see it, but since you obviously haven't even read the posts from those you're criticizing I don't imagine that's going to happen. You haven't backed up a thing you've said so far.

do you people read?--how many of this product do you figure is produce every year?-- how many do you think are sold?--think about that for a minute and then go back and read my post that says these forums are a small representation of the total number of people buying this product. learn to use logic. this item is for sale all over the web. i purchased mine locally, but my point is, that the item cant be that terrible because the number of postings are miniscule compared to the potential number of people that have bought this product and will still buy this product. if you look at a certain brand of sony, pioneer or whatever brand they will all have a product that is less than flattering for their company, but people will still buy the other products because of name recognition. in saying that, optorite is a small company owned by a larger company (sanyo) and it is a moneymaker nonetheless--this is an instance were you get what you pay for, yes but in this instance you whackos have it all wrong. when products are mass produced, they go through quality checks, some of the items make it through a quality check and still fail to work on particular systems. but this is a small amount unless you are ford, but thats another story. my point is, that if a product was as bad as you are saying it is, alot less would be making it through qc and onto the shelves for sale to the general public. i am not trying to outsmart you guys or anything like that--but because " you have been around awhile" and you know so much, you are taking offense to it. sure defend your friends on the forum, but dont close your eyes to the reality of it all. bottom line is, every manufacturer has a model that they would like to forget about, does that make them a bad company? no. it means a bad choice was made thats it--dont beat up the product and go back and read this again and compare it with all of the other posts and responses and weigh everything realistically before you take another stab at me--thats all
