I am weighing things. I'm also considering that for every person who comes here and posts a problem there are many more that have the problem that don't post, either because they find the solution or because they'd rather just keep searching to find it. Just to be clear, this is my reasoning, and if you take issue with any of it feel free to correct me. Despite the impression you may have gotten from my last 2 posts I have no problem with being proven wrong. In fact if somebody shows me that I'm wrong Im more than happy to admit it.Just to be clear, this is my reasoning, and if you take issue with any of it feel free to post your thoughts.

1. A larger than normal number of people have reported problems with Optorite drives. In fact the last time I saw that many posts about a DVD burner it was the Sony DRU-500.

2. The same problems (often from the same users) were being reported for several months, despite numerous firmware updates.

3. Since I started paying attention (when I got my first DVD-R drive almost 2 years ago) the only time I've seen anything approaching a large number of posts for problems with Pioneer burners has been when new models came out, and those problems seemed to mostly disappear after the first or second firmware update.

Now I won't disagree with your argument that the posters here are a small minority of the people who have Optorite burners, but that also applies to any other manufacturer. Why is it that the people who buy Optorites have had so many problems while Pioneer owners haven't? None of us can make any more than an educated guess, and based on available evidence there's plenty to suggest that the problem is the hardware. That may not be the case, but aside from that how would you explain it?

read my post that says these forums are a small representation of the total number of people buying this product.
You never answered my earlier question,

What is your expansive experience based on and just how many Optorite owners have you personally dealt with?

Just like vurbal stated, even though this site is but a microcosm of the grand picture, the relative numbers of problems for different drives here are still indicative the big picture.

It's as if you're simply discounting all the people that have come to this forum having problems with these drives. Did they all come here imagining things? Is it a wild coincidence that all the people who've had problems with Optorites inexplicably came here and to no other forum?

if a product was as bad as you are saying it is, alot less would be making it through qc and onto the shelves for sale to the general public.
Pitifully flawed logic. Following this premise there wouldn't be any bad products ever made. Every company has quality control, the difference is how high their QC standards are.

If you're happy with your drive and don't have problems with then fine but try and get it through your head that just because it works for you doesn't mean that it will work for everyone. You're naive to think otherwise.

This thread was started by a fellow wanting help deciding between Optorite and Pioneer and he ordered the Pioneer over a month ago so I fail to see the point or usefulness of your first prickish post anyway. Argue all you want, I doubt you're going to change any minds here.
