I recently got stuck with a Digital Research Technology ddvdrw8d, suffice to say that Best Buy has angered me. Problem:
I try to use DVDShrink to back up my movies, and it says it's copy protected.
I never had this problem on my pioneer dvr-106D. What should I do? is there anywhere I can get hacked (non protected) firmware for the ddvdrw8d?
any wisdom you can impart will be much appreciated.

dvdshrink used to remove the copy protection on the new movies it would encode, but....now.... is it goign to be a situation of DVD43 telling my system that there is no protection for dvdshrink to remove? (not a huge deal, just curious)
You got it nailed. DVD43's sole job is to bypass CSS and let non-ripper apps like Recode 2, Xcopy etc do their jobs but it also works nicely when Shrink needs a kick.
