Hi, I bought a 3tb Hitachi external hard drive and my Wii won't read it, infact, every time I plug it in it crashes my Wii... My sd card reads perfectly fine on my Wii. I have tried to format it to FAT23, but my nerd friend said that it shouldn't matter. This also didn't work. Can anyone help me out???

I don't think the Wii can read 3TB HDDs as of yet. Not to my knowledge anyways. I'm guessing your Wii is softmodded right?!?!
I use a 2TB HDD and have never had any problems but have never heard anyone using or have heard that there is a 3TB HDD.
here found this for ya.
from what i understand the only way a 3tb will work is if it IS WBFS format.
Since the number of games a WBFS drive can hold is 12 less than the drive's sector size and since all drives used to be 512b sectors the number of games the drive could hold was limited to 500.

Im guessing softmodded has something to do with homebrew? And that's a yes. Thank you for the info, I'll check out the WBFS format. Also, my HDD doesn't read on my ps3, but for some reason, I haven't checked it out on my boyfriend's Xbox Slim. Thanks again.

Also, if Im right about my guess of soft modded, my ps3 is completely 100% legal. I havent tinkered with my ps3 at all whatsoever.

Welcome back, Vato!
Dragon, if you look here there are no 3TBs supported, I'm sorry.
Can you still return it? Take a look at that page and find something that will work for you. I like the Western Digitals.
Good luck!
