problem with pioneer dvd-104

I just recently bought a sony vaio desktop with xp home, 512 DDR Ram, P4 2.0ghz....it came with a pioneer dvd-104 dvd-r/rw burner. well the cd's burn fine. but today i went through all the steps to rip a dvd and get all the things in line for burning, (ie dvd dycrypter, dvd maestro, Tmpeng, and so on...) i use nero 5.5.9.0 and when i put a fujifilm dvd-r in it when i ask it to create dvd nero doesn't ever do anything it just sits there and doesnt ever burn...it's like it's initializing but doesn't do anything. what could be the problem? this is the first time that i've used the burner for dvd's. Also i don't know much about this firmware thing so if i could get some info on that too that would be great. maybe i just need to update the firmware. anyway thanks for any responses.

I had this problem with my pioneer A04,
Turning on DMA fix it. Goto system properties, device manager select dvd drive, select properties, selct settings check DMA and restart your computer. It's worked great ever since, hope it works for your. My desktop is amd700 320mb ram O.S. M.E.

Thats odd, I had to turn off DMA for my DVR-104
to be able to burn.Even after firmware update.
