Hey guys, i read through the guide already on how to author mpegs so i can watch them on my DVD player, my problem is i have downloaded an SVCD and extracted the cue and bin files so i have the mpeg of the movie, now when i try to author the mpeg file or author it, it doesnt recognize it as a mpeg. What is the problem here and how can i watch my svcd on my non svcd reading dvd player.

If it reads VCDs you may be able to use the 'VCD Header Trick'. Do a search on that and you should find some threads with instructions. If it doesn't read VCD, the only other option is to make it a DVD.

You can make non-standard DVDs from SVCD video using DVD-Lab. There's a fully functional 30 day trial available. Import your MPEG as an asset, and it can Demux to elementary streams and convert the audio to the correct sampling frequency for you. Not all players will display non-standard resolutions correctly, but probably the only way to find out is to try it. If your player doesn't display that correctly, the only other option is to re-encode the video to DVD resolution and that will degrade the video quality.

Bavarian3: what did you use to try & encode the .mpg to MPEG2 (DVD complaint...so correct screen res & 48kHz audio) ?

I normally use :
IsoBuster
MainConcept MPEG Encoder
TMPGenc DVD Author

:P)

MainConcept MPEG Encoder is a LOT faster than TMPGEnc at encoding...and of course you're able to encode the mpg you've extracted.

In MainConcept you'd select the DVD option , which will then encode to MPEG2 DVD Complaint [other options would be PAL if in Europe or NTSC if in USA/Japan + Layer 2 + Program: Video+Audio]

Then use TMPGenc DVD Author to convert to VOB format ready for burning...

how much faster is it?

The problem is TMPGEnc wasnt recognizing the mpeg as an mpeg, the SVCD file must have some weird stuff done to it to cause this..
