thats my question. It has been taking about 2-3 hours to decrypt then it starts the decryption process over again, taking another 2-3 hours to complete (meaning that the progress bar starts from scratch again), before asking me to insert a blank dvd. From memory it didn't use to do this. Comments please.
Not to my knowledge. DVD Shrink takes me anywhere from 15 min to 1 hr to decrypt and shrink. Depending on the movie. What is your computer sytem specs. It shouldn't even take 2 hrs to do it one time.

thanks for the feedback. Yes my pioneer 107 is in dma mode. My computer specs are celeron 500MHz CPU, about 300 Mb RAM, intel sr bx440 motherboard. Also yes I select deep analysis for burning as i was under the impression that this improves quality. Am i wrong?

The Deep Analysis will help picture quality when there's a good bit of compression to be dond but, as you've found out, it takes a lot longer to complete the process.
Are you using your 107 to rip the disc? Most burners come from the factory locked to a 2X read speed which would partially explain your long times. There are hacked firmwares that will unlock the read speed of your 107 and another option would be to get an inexpensive ROM for your ripping chores since ROMs are able to rip full speed (up to 12X or so) right out of the box.
I also noticed that your system specs (CPU/RAM) are on the very low end for processing a movie so slower times are to be expected because of that as well.

I forgot to mention that I have a 20 gb harddrive but always have about 13gb free every time I burn which shouldnt make any difference to the process. But Nephilim it says in my burners manual that the max read speed for dvd+/-r is 8. So your saying that this is not so and that I should get hold of some firmware?

My apologies!
I should have been more clear. The read speed is locked to 2X only for factory DVD's that have CSS encryption. The drive will read at full speed for unprotected discs.
The boxes for the drives never let in on this fact but it usually says it somewhere in the manual.
