thanks

p.s, ive changed my cd-rw for a sony dvd-rw and ive changed my graphics card, is this likely to cause a problem?

The Recovery disc will take the computer back to how it was when you bought the computer, which includes Windows XP. There is no way to make a backup copy of the Windows XP Disc without buying a copy or using the recovery.

It shouldnt cause much problems, just if you use the recovery, you will most likely need to uninstall the drivers for the video card that came with your comptuer and re-install the new drivers.

If the Windows XP Disc is the same as in Home Edition or Professional as yours, im not 100% sure if you can do it legally, but i think u can use the Serial Number with your comptuer (on the case of ur computer on a sticker) with that Windows XP Disc....

No you dont need 2 Format to create Partitions, you can download a program to do it. A Trial Program would be Partition Magic ( http://www.powerquest.com/partitionmagic/ ) which is now owned by Symantec that you can create a new partition, by resizing ur current.

Yeah you could probably get away with this either directly (using the Recovery disc -- which i'm not sure if you can or not) but definitely with something like Ghost -- provided you dont change something crucial like your mobo or family of processor.

The law is stupid but if you have your legal license key I dont see a reason why you cant use his disc (provided you also use your serial) to register ... of course that would be common sense and common sense rarely interacts with law.....

How true

If you dont need to reformat to make partitions then i think the easyest thing is to do is a system restore taking it back to a very early point, but when ive looked it seems that i dont have any restore points! my system restore setings are on max but when i go to restore points i dont have any options, the calander is on july 2004 and wont go back.
does this look like that option is no good for me now?
If i do a system recovery will i still need my os disc or will the os stay on there?

ive looked for smartrestore in pc tool kit but the file is missing!
