There are two (important) lights on the router: the WAN light and the SWITCH light ... the switch light keeps going out ... whenever the unit gets excessively hot... i think i solved it now (put two fans on/in it)... was just wondering if anyone ever encountered a similar problem

Praetor, I have not had THAT problem, but I did have a problem due to stupidity. I live out in the country, on a lake. We have had cable television since we moved here 12 years ago. Our cable system finally got broadband up and running right before Christmas. I was the first one to get connected to the system. LOL

At any rate, I have 2 computers networked, so I got a Linksys router (WRT54G). I did not realize that they got a tad warm. For Christmas, one of my nieces gave me a box of chocolate covered cherries. lol She knows that I love them. I had them sitting by my computer and for whatever reason, put them on top of my router. The next morning, when I got up, I happened to see them sitting there, opened up the box, and they were all melted. LOLLOL

Dumb, true story, but I learned that routers do give off heat. :)

I am not a big fan of that router, I like the old style that fit like servers slots. They are big but easy to cool, also perfect foot stools in the winter.

Mine is this one:

GandpaBW, sorry to hear about your cherries. I love the ones with the liquor inside.

Since at home all I have is dialup, a modem one I was thinking of. But were too expensive and didn`t seem to work the way I wanted. Atleast the print server on it works, for all 5 of my computers :)
