so i downloaded the nero mpeg2 codec plugin, install it, it installs successfully.
i go to put some of my files into nero for burning a svcd and it says "due to patent license restrictions, the mpeg2 encoding/converting is not available. To add this possibility please purchase the nero mpeg2 codec plugin at www.nero.com"

what i want to know is why it isn't reconizing the plugin when it said that it installed correctly.

if anyone knows anything that can help me please let me know. i'm getting so frustrated!!
thanks!

Where did you get your copy of nero. If it came free with your computer it will have many restrictions on it. The most popular restriction is the Burner type restriction. Its even more frustrating when you add a second burner and it wont allow you to use it due to license crap!

it might of come on this computer already installed. maybe that might be the problem.
is there certain things i need to turn off/on? is this possible?

the plugin that i downloaded doesn't show an install file. it just automatically installs, in the nero folder.
what file am i supposed to look for?

I don't have the mpeg-2 codec for nero on my computer but if it said installed successfully, it should have been. Is your version of nero old???? Could it be possible that you need a newer version because of a codec update or something!

i do have the latest version - 5.5
i have already burned svcd's so i know that its not a burner restriciton problem.

No there shouldnt be, if you have the plugin then it should work perfectly, just like when you use audio plugins on nero!

Ktech -- THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! For sharing your download site and wisdom.

Kadmille -- THANK YOU for describing your problem so precisely, that I was able to find someone experiencing the same FRUSTRATION I was having.

The problem, at least in my case, was that I downloaded the NERO SVCD plugin from Kazaa. Everyone on Kazaa appears to be unwittingly sharing a non-working/Beta-version of this plugin.

Moral of the story: If you got it from Kazaa and it's not working -- don't question your own computer skills! Broaden your search on the web. Look for evidence of others who have experienced the same problem and hope someone has been thoghtful enough to share the solution!

Thanks you again Ktech and Kadmille!

Just to be perfectly clear about burning SVCD's using Nero. First, be sure you have downloaded the "Full-Featured Demo Version" from the Ahead Nero web site. This Demo version is truely full featured and even contains the code for encoding SVCD's. Just plug in the serial number and you will have most of the current version of Nero Burning ROM working -- but NOT SVCD's.
For SVCD's to work, all that's needed is to copy one DLL file and then patch it (changing 2 bytes!) That's it! Because the SVCD capability is already contained in the "Full-Featured Demo", all that stops you from using the SVCD code is a 2-byte "lock". Patch this 2-byte lock with the patch you get from the web site listed by Ktech (above) and SVCD encoding software will be yours to use endlessly. Be aware, if you have an older/slower processor, one SVCD can take 8 hours to encode and that's for about 30 or 40 minutes of play back time! Good luck and enjoy!
Video editing really requires a newer, faster machine with lots of RAM and lots of disk space or it just becomes impractical.

ok i have a question, how do i encode my file to SVCD?
cuz i have a movie with extension .avi and i want to watch it on my VCD/SVCD/DVD player, so i DLed this plugin for Nero...i patched the .dll file, and what i have to do next?

1)File, New, select Super-Video CD and just drag my .avi file to the left window?
or
2)Extras, File Encoding
im new to this so i appreciate if u guys help me =)

ps:i did step 1, i dragged the .avi to the left window and then i see the blue line in the MB parameters, but it took 2 secs, but "wrobert3" said encoding takes 30-40mins or even hours to do it...but it took me 2seconds! help me! thx in advance

gee::: if you didnt try it already after you did step one then you go to your burn part of your nero program and when you burn the cd it will take afew hours to encode it before even starts to burn the cd .this will vary on how long the movie is and how fast your comp is.

gee,
First, be sure your are dragging an APPROPRIATE AVI!!! This means MPEG2 (NOT MPEG1). What I do, is search on Kazaa using key words such as "Scooby Doo SVCD". Then you will get something that is SVCD/MGEG2 compliant! There are actually very few files that meet this STANDARD MPEG2 criteria, so pease don't think you can take any old video file and get a high-quality SVCD -- it just doesn't work like that!
Now even when you drag and drop something which is MPEG2-standard compliant, if your computer is slow, like mine (333 MHz) you'll wait almost 8 hours for the encoding step! Apparently, there is something called "scaling", and if you R-click on the file you just dragged and dropped within Nero, you'll get a properties window. On this window there is a "scaling options" pull-down box. You can choose Max, Scale to fit or Scale and clip. (I don't understand these options and always choose "MAX"). During the encoding/scaling the file size will go from a 210MB file to a 728MB Image file (something like that). The number of calculations required to create/scale this Image file MUST be enormous! Of course if you have a 3.0 GHz computer with a 533 MHz front-side bus, you may not notice it taking very long at all!
Gee, be sure you are in "Image" (also called "Virtual") recorder mode -- ie. not the REAL HARDWARE recorder mode when you drag and drop the file. Then click on the toolbar icon that looks like something on fire (orange flames). This will open up a dialog where you can the click on "WRITE" to begin the encoding (8 hours) and then the actual writing of the image file -- Nero will stop at the end of encoding and ask you what you want to name the file and where you want to put it. The actual writing of the image file takes only about 8 minutes or so. The file extension will be .nrg (Nero Image). Once the Image file has been written, go back to the "recorder" pull-down menu and switch from Image/Virtual Recorder to the REAL HARDWARE RECORDER. Now is when you place the CD-R in the recorder tray. Click the file pull-down menu and click on "Burn Image". A dialog will open up allowing you to browse to the image file you want to burn onto the CD-R. This is the phase in which you actually burn the color change onto the CD-R with a laser.
Now, during this critical burning phase (burning the CD-R; NOT the Image file), you must make sure everything else on your computer has been stopped. Why? Because if the scheduler decided to go looking for updates for Windows or starts defragging or scanning a disk drive your burning step in in big trouble. I shut down EVERYTHING on my computer before I burn a disk. I disable the AntiVirus, I disconnect form the Internet and disable the Personal Firewall. I want NOTHING to interrupt the burn step. Also, depending on your computer, you may have to choose a rather slow burn rate. My CD-Recorder is capable of 48X but I can't burn any faster than 8X because my computer is too slow. It's probably the bus speed on my machine that limits me. If you try to burn faster and your computer fail to keep up, you get a buffer underrun. Even with buffer underrun firmware, you can end up with a coaster if you try to burn too fast!
I hope this helps. It's a lot, and I'm not sure how much of this you already know or don't know. I'm trying to be complete and make it easier for your because I learned the hard way and created 100 or more coasters in the process. What's worse, if you get a buffer underrun your computer will lock up and you will be forced to reboot! It's a royal drag!
Good luck and I will be happy to help with additional information if you need it.

gee, Quality in never very good on VCD; I thought SVCD would be better, and sometimes it is, but I have had some sections with glitches so bad that I can't watch the SVCD at all. I was wondering if my CD-recorder was malfunctioning. I bought a brand X -- maybe I should have bought a Sony. Would it have made any difference? Better quality CD-R? I'm usind Maxell right now (last type that was on sale) that are rated to 40X -- I burn at 8X and even went down to 4X -- still glitches! My favoite brand for CD's is Memorex.
Upside down? Is that a joke? I've never seen that. Did you try watching the input file on Windows media player first? If that looks good, then I have absolutely NO ideas! Sorry.

Hello!
I'm new here
I was looking thru google and came across this topic
I'm having the same problem as kadmille. The plugin installed right but when I try to reencode it says its a beta version and it cant.
I can burn svcds but there are certain svcds that nero says it needs to be reencoded.
My question is do i have to do what wrobert explained?
Does it apply in my case?
Thanx for your help I'm desperate

PS : Sorry for bumping an old topic.

stop trying to use Nero to encode your video.. try using TMPGenc to encode first, then use Nero to create the SVCD using the MPEG2 video created from TMPGenc.

hi, i dl a movie off mirc, and i guess it was due to all the stopping and starting i had to do to get the file, but nero wont burn it. i tried putting it in tmpgenc, but thta wont load it for some reason (maybe corrupt or something???) this is why i was hoping nero would encode it correctly. as ive already said, nero wants the mpeg 2 codec plugin (so i`ll have to try and get another version) and when i encoded to vcd with nero it was all outta sync (badly) so anyone else got any other ideas? or shall i try and get a different vers. of nero like the person said b4?

Hey,
I am having trouble playing S-VCD's on my DVD-Player and I can play regular VCD's on it with ease. Is there something I need to do with the cd-r on nero to make it compatible with my DVD-Player?

Thanks

I know not with what weapons WWIII will be fought, but WWIV will be fought with sticks and stones.
