Hello,
I have just bought a copy of a film Called Equilibrium, I have tried to back up the copy to my PC using DVD Shrink. However I always get CRC errors during the ripping operation. I have a few other DVD's that I have done this to and have never had any problems. The DVD plays fine both on my PC and on my home system. Has anyone come accross this issue before? The disk is brand new and has no scratches whatsoever.
Just because a DVD works "fine" on a DVD Player or PC, doesn't mean the DVD is perfect. The DVD playback algorithms provide for imperfect media, and just skip to the next playable frame (or even chapter) when an error is encountered. By just watching the DVD, you'll never know that you missed major sections (unless you remember from watching the movie on the big screen before).
You may want to check the new DVD by holding it up to direct light to see if there are any strange blotches or streaks in the silver substrate. I've encountered a few DVD's of this nature where defects became obvious only as part of the ripping process.
Praetor,
We think alike (on rare occasions ;-) ). I was going to ask that one.

Run the DVD Decrypter to find if its a decryption problem. Still think Decrypter is one of the best for that task.
I'd like to add that you can use the free tool DVDinfoPro to check the media. There are 2 versions of the software. The free includes some adware, won't harm your system, and one where you make a small donation and no adware. It is a good tool and gives a lot of info about a disc. I have even had discs with faults that played well. However when the faults reach a certain level, you are guaranteed problems.
Thanks Guys I Haven't tried DVD decryptor yet so I will give that a go and get back to you. I have checked the DVD as GALBIN suggested and can't see any obvious defects though.
