I'm getting ready to write the DVD Remake guide I've mentioned on a couple of other threads. I've started it (and scrapped it) a couple of times, but I think I've settled on an approach that will provide examples of just about everything I want to explain. My plan is to do a complete DVD backup of Beauty And The Beast Special Edition (R1) with DRM Pro and try to explain each step along the way. Since this DVD has a little of everything (multiple angles, ILVU, previews that play before the menu) I think it will be a good example for the basic operations people will want to use DRM for.

What I'd like to know is if anyone has specific things they've tried to use DRM for, but haven't figured out yet. Anything from terminology that you don't understand to how to make specific changes. I'd like to provide as many answers as possible, but first I need to try to figure out all the questions I can. I'll be out of town tomorrow and the next day, so if I seem to be ignoring this thread that's why. I'm hoping to get started on the guide around the beginning of next week, but it may take a while to write as I figure out a few things myself, so feel free to keep adding any questions or suggestions you have until I'm actually finished.

Sounds very interesting. If you think some technical "comments" will be required I can probably help with it. But judging by your rebuilder guide it will not be needed :)

I appreciate the vote of confidence, but don't be surprised if you see a couple of more technical questions from me on the DRM forums. There's always more to learn ;)

Okay, I've revised my plans a little and I'm going to divide this into 2 guides so I don't have to rewrite it that way later (like I did with my DVD-RB guide). The first part is going to be all about analyzing a DVD with DVD Shrink, Mark's Tray DVD Player, and DVD Remake to put together a plan for backing up a DVD. It will also cover a lot of terminology and general information on the structure of a DVD. I don't see any way around some of the terminology. If you want to get to this level of DVD backups you should be prepared to do that. The second guide is going to cover actually modifying the disc with DRM.

Should I hold off on asking any questions that involve the material for the second guide?

Nope - if you want it answered, ask away.

Id highly appreciate and use a remake guide. The only thing holding me back from dropping the money on CCE is not being able to get dvds that have more than one angle or are interweaved (is that whats is called?) copied. If I knew how to use remake, than I guess the investment would be a good one.

Any idea on remake guide release? I thought your RB/CCE guide was excellent. It made what first looked a daunting task, simple and easy....

Thanks in advance vurbal.......

The guide would make a good place for some of the recipes for success with DVDremake/DVDrebuilder to avoid the buffer overrun errors.
Like how to find and split ILVU cells in the main title individually.
Hiding the menu blocks in the main title that reference the removed extras and removing the buttons that lead to them.

On the 2 movies that I have done that had the 0004 error, this fixed it.

The second guide is going to cover actually modifying the disc with DRM.

If modifying the disc means getting into the command structures, that would be great. It seems logical that the commands/instructions tell the DVD how to play. However, it is presently difficult for me, a non-programmer, to attach meaning to IF, GOTO, brackets, etc. If there were a way to simplify or break this down, it seems like just about any modifications would be possible.

Yes, I intend to cover some of that. I'm not going to get into too much detail so I can keep things relatively simple, but I'll at least have some basic instructions on how to figure out how the commands work and a link or 2 to some good reference material. Who knows, maybe a few months down the road I'll do another guide that covers it in more detail.

I'll certainly be covering the basics required for using the 2 programs together. No guarantees about specifics, but I have intentionally selected a movie with both multiple angles and ILVU.

Thanks! Unfortunately I can't be too specific right now. I work from home and I'm currently in a very busy period. On top of that I just got back from a mini vacation so I'm not going to get any serious work done on it for at least a couple of days ;) I hope to have the first guide available within the next couple of weeks. Depending mostly on how many facts and terms I have to verify it may be up to twice that long. The second guide should actually be much easier and I expect it will take no more than another 2 weeks, but I can't really give you even semi-accurate projections about that.

So... Vurbal are you any closer to getting done with the guide? No hurry but, i was just wondering because ReMake Looks interesting but, it also looks complex.

Actually I'm almost finished with the first in a series. I'd have been done sooner, but real life has gotten in the way several times, and I've started over more than once. It's really not as complicated as it looks, but it's definitely been a challenge putting what I have in my head into simple terms.
